I have been doing some reading and i have found that outlook 2000 doesn't work with Exchange 2007. Can anyone verify this?

Thanks,

Yes, I would love to know to because we are switching to exchange 2007 and some of our clients still have outlook 2000 installed.

Outlook 2007 uses RPC over HTTP by default, only 2003+ can work with it. We use IMAP with Outlook 2000. I've not actually tried it though.

I might have a go tomorrow if I can find a machine with 2000 on it and a few spare minutes.

Outlook 2000 (sp1) refused to connect in anything other than IMAP/POP. I tried any number of mailbox and server name combinations just in case it wasn't the same as 2003/2007 but no joy, nothing worked.

Alternatively you could keep Office 2000 and get your users to use OWA (Outlook Web Access), it's really good and simple to use.

Just make sure you install sp1, as OWA will not permit local distribution lists without it. Also you can't share calendars/mailboxes with the base install, I don't know if thats also fixed in sp1 or not, I suspect not.

It's good enough for most purposes though, certainly for students.

Thanks Jay for checking this out!

I guess I need to update my clients to Outlook 2003/2007.

Use one of the following:

* Outlook 2003

* Outlook 2002

Outlook Web Access

Client computer with a Web browser installed

Outlook Web Access using Integrated Windows authentication

Client computer with Microsoft Internet Explorer installed

Use one of the following:

* Mobile phones running Windows Mobile 6.1 or later versions

* Mobile phones running Windows Mobile 6.0 or later versions

* Mobile phones running Windows Mobile 5.0

* Mobile phones running Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP)

* Mobile phones running a non-Windows operating system that are compatible with Exchange ActiveSync

Client application that uses Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3)

You must have a client computer that meets the requirements for your specific client. For a list of these requirements, consult the documentation for the POP3 client software.

Client application that uses Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4)

You must have a client computer that meets the requirements for your specific client. For a list of these requirements, consult the documentation for the IMAP4 client software.

Microsoft Entourage

Download and read the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Resource Kit version 2. This resource kit contains a complete feature matrix and provides details about the versions of Entourage that are supported for Exchange 2007. Information about Entourage 2008 for Mac is available in the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Administrator’s Guide.
