Delete Files and Folders - How do you do it?

I am deleting some old student files and folders but am finding that some of the students have created really deep folder paths that I cannot delete the files/folders as I get "Cannot delete file :" or "The file name you specified is not valid or too long". I then have to go in and rename all the sub folders to single characters which can be very time consuming.

 

I tried using "rmdir /s" but this wont do some folders.

map a network drive durther down the path so if its really

d:\users\2009\fbloggs\fdfdsfdsfsd\dfdsfdfdfsd\asfdfdfsdfs\fddffsdfdsfdsf

map z: (say) to

\\server\users$\2009\fbloggs\fdfdsfdsfsd\dfdsfdfdfsd\asfdfdfsdfs

delete the files remove the drive map then remove the higher up folders

@Steve21 - Id rather not have to buy something to do this.

@sted - problem with that is there are tons of folders. ie Student share then all the student folders under it.

Use something like 7zip filemanager, unless it's changed it accepts a lot longer paths than bog standard Windows.

We use Treesize Professional and it does a very good job of removing them. It will search for duplicate files, files that haven't been accessed for x amount of time and so on.

 

There is a free version but it will only work on the machine it's installed on rather than the pro version which will work across your network.
