ADFS Service Username

Anyone come across this?

 

ADFS v2 service account is exposed to the internet

 

Looking around online I can see this example where it looks like they've managed to secure the identity by some sort of encryption. How?

It's a sad sign of my age as when I saw ADFS I thought of Advanced Disc Filing System as used on my old Acorn Archimedes and indeed the Acorn Electron!
