PhotoStory 3 - permissions

We are trying to run MS PhotoStory 3 in our ICT Suite on some Windows 7 32 bit clients. The programme runs fine and saves but when either the students or staff try to reopen it an access denied box pops up. I don't think this happens for Admin Users.

 

Permissions thing? If so where would I need to look to enable Staff and Students for it?

i would use the processmon, available here, - Process Monitor to look at the files it is trying to read/write from.

Had that before and it was that they could not get it from a redirected my documents but if they went via a mapped home drive it worked perfectly. Never found out why, staff just learnt to use the mapped drive with it (was on XP). Not much of a help I know, works fine now we have mo ed to w7 though!

An update on this - looking at the Properties of a PhotoStory project the teacher has saved I see that she is not listed as having a permission on it at all. Just System, Domain Admins and Administrator.

 

Where would I need to look to get the programme to allow other users?

How was it installed/deployed? It sounds like Photo Story is running under different credentials than the user. When you start it up, open task manager and look at the Photo Story process. What user does it list it running as?

Thanks @Duke5A It was installed with an Administrator logged on - being a school we don't allow any other users to install software. Is there any way around this?

Other ways of installing would be deploying the MSI with GPO so that it installs automagicly on all targeted stations or using some other form of software managment to get it on there. I seem to remember that photostory had some weird issues when it did not have enumerate permissions on the whole folder path - i.e. it could get a folder list of //server //server/docs //server/docs/user - the file issue does sound rather weird, could you test it with a standard user saving to a folder on the c: and see if that has the same issues? It is probably something to do with it not quite handeling the file permissions somewhere along the folder tree.
