RIS Problem - XP on 2000 server

Try just setting 'Boot from other device' as the first boot option and disable the others. You should then see the invitation to configure the NIC when you boot. Hopefully..............

Nope... However I downloaded a boot disk image from http://www.rom-o-matic.net and it loads up fine till it says searching for server (dhcp) but it doesn't find it. I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track because if I download a rom for a SIS600 instead of my SIS900 it just gives me hex addresses.

see if a pxe-enabled client will get an address (try a laptop). You don't actually have to RIS it.

Also, if you have managed switches, try turning off Spanning Tree Protocol on the port the machine is connected to. STP was doing weird things on our switches when our machines we're trying to get an address with RIS.

Yes it does work for other machines, just not the ones it needs to

 

So its definately something to do with the client.

Did you ever figure this one out Pear.. .I've got the same problem now with a similar board that has IPL (Netware) as the network boot protocol and no amount of playing with the AMIBIOS seems to change it to PXE despite docs saying it should be possible.

I have had that contink and I have to press a seperate combo elsewhere from the BIOS to sort that. In my case it is shift and tab.

Yeah, tried that one and I get the following:

- If it don't use the network boot (F12) it does nothing

- If I do use the network boot it gives me a choice of local or network boot but doesn't accept input regardless.

 

No mention of PXE, despite the fact that the driver disk (which I finally located) does say I should be able to use that and/or other tools like flash.exe to change the boot mode... I keep getting a eeprom flash locked, etc.. and the latest bios doesn't help at all...
