XP Pro on server 2008/12

Is anyone running a mix of XP and Windows 7 on server 2008/12. We are about to upgrade the server but I have a feeling that not all of the old laptops will be replaced in time. So we may have some staff with Toshiba Satellite A200s (some with 512MB RAM) who will want to access the domain.

Yep we have a mix of XP and 7 sitting on a server 2008 domain. You shouldn't have any issues with that but be aware that certain group policies will apply differently and any roaming user profiles will have both a username and a username.v2 folder

I can confirm XP works OK with 2008 R2.

 

When configuring GPOs, configure filtering so you can only see GPOs applicable to a particular OS. Quite a handy feature.

I can also confirm XP works OK with 2008 R2, I have't run that configuration in years now but it worked perfect back in the day

The LEA has just come back to me to say they don't want us to use XP as they no longer test it.

We have a mix too and have no issues. Havent noticed any GPs applying differently either.

Same as you, we have some teacher's laptops running XP. I have got the licences to put them up to Win 7 (and replace a couple) but wrenching them out of the teacher's hands is proving difficult

 

I have a couple of Dell 505s with 512 RAM and they are fine with the network
