Nobody will ever need more than 512K for routing....

TLDR: Public IPv4 address space exceeded 500k routes. Older routers (or routers that haven't had their config updated from the default allocation) have a max of 512K* available for IPv4, causing errant behaviour or ignoring new routes. Hilarity ensues.

This does explain a lot of the junk that has been going down today, Vodafone in NZ or at least a stack of their edge providers probably use this as many sites were simply unavalible from mobile data.
