[Progresso] API call to get next years Registration group for pupils

One for Progresso API experts out there: School Cloud Systems are kindly trying to overcome an issue we have with progresso. Our office staff want to organise after school clubs this week for September (I know, I know), but the issue is that we need the Sync to reflect the registration group on at future date, namely the start of Autumn 2017 term. Is this possible with current interfaces and if yes, any tips/examples greatly appreciated.

Do you know if School Cloud uses the SOAP or REST API? As they're a bit different. I'm pretty sure the REST one lets you fetch future groups and the Learners that are in them but it's been several years since i looked at the other.

I'm not sure but will find out. I have spoken to Progresso with regards getting the documentation for the API but no joy to date, however I did come across Martin Reynolds documentation and saw a couple of functions called "retrieve-learner-group-association" and "retrieve-a-collection-of-groups". They look to have potential but I'm not clear which version of the API this is from.

You mean that, right? That's the REST one - it's new and better.

The old one is soap, i'm afraid I don't have any docs for that either; i'd be surprised if there's not a way though.

OK so; after a certain amount of "How the hell does this thing work again..."; I can definitely get a Learner's membership of next year's Registration Group, using GetLearnerGroupByLearnerId in the LearnerRecord service and cross referencing GetLearnerGroups in the AcademicData service.

So; yes it's possible. Obviously SchoolCloud would need to code for that though.

Thanks all. We're waiting on a response from Advanced Learning as would rather not have to call an API endpoint for each individual Learner to find out their registration group at a particular date.

Yeah, I guess that would be annoying!

I guess what's needed is a call to Academic Progression Data so it's a simple table lookup of Reg group progressions?

Just an update for anyone following this thread. SCS got very close with this, managing to copy across the future dated registrations groups. The sticking point was getting the future dated academic year - so close yet so far! I'm going to try contact our account manager to see if we can influence the API developers to add this functionality as I think if more schools move to progresso (AET for example), there's going to be more people asking for this functionality.

Hi Lissydoll4,

You can get attendance data from the SOAP API by hitting Attendance.svc GetAttendanceData. You might also need to link that together with some data from Miscellaneous.svc GetEventTypeLookup to fully determine what is going on. I have also had to make use of data from ManageAcademicYear.svc GetActiveAcadmiecYear to figure out term breaks and globally scoped absences i.e. school closures.

Afraid I can't advise on the REST API, haven't got around to working on that yet.

New to progresso any advice help on attendance would be great thanks

Hi @Lissydoll4,

I noticed there are several threads for on the go, but for the attendance I'll stick with this one. I have come across the challenge of accessing the previous years data but have always managed to find a solution. I think the API route is most likely overly complicated for what I'm guessing is a standard requirement. Could you outline what of last years data attendance you are looking for (e.g. individual pupil reports, summary data etc.?) and I'll see what if I can point you in the right direction.
