Arthur Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Finally out of beta! Download: x64 (MSU), x86 (MSU) / Known Issues With Work Folders users can store and access work files on personal computers and devices, often referred to as bring-your-own device (BYOD), in addition to corporate PCs. Users gain a convenient location to store work files, and they can access them from anywhere. Organizations maintain control over corporate data by storing the files on centrally managed file servers, and optionally specifying user device policies such as encryption and lock-screen passwords. Work Folders can be deployed with existing deployments of Folder Redirection, Offline Files, and home folders. Work Folders stores user files in a folder on the server called a sync share. You can specify a folder that already contains user data, which enables you to adopt Work Folders without migrating servers and data or immediately phasing out your existing solution. (Source) System Requirements Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional or Ultimate (with SP1) A domain account set up with Work Folders A Windows 7 PC joined to your work domain To use Work Folders on a PC that’s not joined to your work’s domain, you must upgrade to Windows 8.1. jamesfed Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Doesn't work on non domain joined or the Home edition of Windows That would be the killer feature for me (mix in OSX/Android/WP support and I'll set it up tonight) so hoping they will bring this out in the future.
Arthur Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Microsoft have just released a Work Folders app for iPads. Work Folders for iOS – iPad App Release « The Storage Team at Microsoft Download (VPP) Features Pin files for offline viewing. Saves iPad storage space by fully showing all available files but locally storing and keeping in sync only the files you care about. Files are stored encrypted at all times. On the wire and at rest on the device. Access to the app is protected by an app passcode – keeping others out even if the iPad is left unlocked and unattended. Allows for DIGEST and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) authentication mechanisms including multi factor authentication. View your files right inside the app with a built-in viewer for many file types. Open files in other apps that might be specialized to work with a certain file type. At this rate we might see an Android app next year? 1
jamesfed Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 At last! Might be worth looking into now especially given that we've got all of the students folders under the same root instead of separated out by intake year:)
