This seems like a strange one to me.

Opening a spreadsheet does not display any data in the spreadsheet nor does it display any grid lines [horizontal or vertical]

I have been able to verify that there is data in the spreadsheets by changing Excel's mode to full screen when the data is displayed as expected [however teachers do not accept this even as an interim solution while I try to find an answer so the pressure is on]

It is happening to students and staff, to newly re-imaged workstations and stations with much older images. I am now guessing that it may be a Windows Update issue.

Has anyone else seen this or cured it?

Please?

Thanks.

Not come across this no. I guess you've checked that grid lines is switched on and that text is not white? Do any of the formulas or numbers show in the formula bar?

Try this:

In IE8 / Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN settings / Automatic configuration - uncheck Automatically detect settings.
