Hello all, On Friday(Apr 2010) I tried rolling out an XP Pro image to 30 Toshiba NB300-108 Notebooks using Windows 7 boot.wim (WinPe3) and Server 2003 without any success, they kept getting stuck at Expanding Files (1%). I could apply the 5GB image in 8 minutes using a bootable USB stick with WinP3 and an external hard drive. The cause of the problem is the network driver included in Windows 7 for the RealTek RTL8102/3E PCI Express adapter. Here is the solution that fixed the problem for me; the solution comes first with the other failed attempts to solve it afterwards. What you will need: For Toshiba NB300-108 Notebooks the Windows 7 Network driver for the RTL8102E/RTL8103E Pci-Express NIC: Realtek WAIK 6.1 for Windows 7 as you will need DISM to manage the Windows7 boot.wim. N.B. When working with Wim files it is always a good idea between working with different Wim files to run: DISM /Cleanup-Wim N.B.2 It also a good idea to check how many images are in the wim file by using: DISM /Get-WimInfo /wimfile:file.wim The Windows 7 boot.wim has two images, a WinPE3 at index:1 and Windows 7 at index:2. If you add the driver to the WinPE section it will import fine in to WDS but will not show up in the boot selection menu, hence checking how many images there are So we will mount the 2nd image: DISM /mount-wim /wimfile:"D:\32bit Deploy - Windows 7 based.wim" /index:2 /mountdir:D:\Mount Add the driver, DISM should automatically find the inf file. If you need to add more drivers from the same folder tree you can now do a recursive find, just add /recurse DISM /Add-Driver /Image:D:\Mount /Driver:D:\Drivers\RealTek\RTL8102E We can now commit the changes: DISM /Commit-Wim /MountDir:D:\Mount /commit Now name the wim file an updated version number and /or description and replace/re-import it in to WDS. I hope this helps everyone else who gets these notebooks. Other things I tried on the Friday to get it to work. Some further background, the School's site had a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Intel Pro 1000MT network card and NetGear FS726T switches. Updating the Server's driver had no effect. Plugging a client directly in to a gigabit port on the switch with the Server in the other gigabit port had no effect. Some others have stated that swapping in a different network card has fixed it; it didn't in this case. Put in an Intel 100 PCI NIC, no effect. Can't find reference, sorry. Some people have had very very slow deployments, e.g. 72hours or more using Server 2003/R2 they suggested this article on disabling Scalable networking. Can't find original reference, sorry. An update to turn off default SNP features is available for Windows Server 2003-based and Small Business Server 2003-based computers These settings were already set to 0 (disabled) in the registry.

Hello all, I have spoken to RM who have not been able to help with this. It is not a CC3 or CC4 network, just a straight Microsoft network. Essentially the Server 2008 R2 firewall is blocking pupils but not admins. This is not due to firewall permissions or NTFS permissions as far as I can work out. No NAT is being done, the clients and server are all on the same logical/physical network. Situation: New Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller with Firewall enabled as default. Rebuilt XP Pro SP3 Clients with ICT Alive 1.8 installed. Server 2008 R2 firewall enabled with an inbound exception rule for Domain and Public profiles, that does not require a secure connection (IPsec) allowing access to: %Program Files% (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$LEARNINGALIVE\Binn\Sqlservr.exe This is as the RM technical document, (TEC108540) says it should be set. Symptoms If logged in as a Pupil, ICT Alive will work only if: The Server's Firewall is disabled. Tested by trying ICT Alive with it on - fails. Turn firewall off on Server, run ICT Alive again straight after failing an it works. If logged in as an admin account ICT Alive will work if: The Server's Firewall is disabled. OR The above SQL server instance rule is enabled and the Server's Firewall is enabled. ICT Alive will not work for a Pupil if: The Server's Firewall is enabled and the SQL server instance rule is enabled, but it will work for an admin account. ICT Alive will not work for a Pupil or Admin if: The SQL server instance rule is disabled but the Server's Firewall is ebabled, indicating that it is nothing to do with NTFS permissions. Remedies Disabling the firewall allows ICT Alive to work but is not an option. Checked all NTFS permissions for ICT Alive on both the Server and Client machines and the SQL Instance, all are as they should be. RM gives "Everyone" full access on the client machines to the C:\Program Files\Research Machines\LA folder. the per Disabled the Client machine firewall, no effect. Added RM's suggested website's to the proxy exception list, no effect. Ran RM's ICT Alive health check as both Admin and Pupil, it states all ok regardless of firewall state. Set the SQL instance firewall rule to use "secure connections" only and added "authenticated users" to both the Computers and Users tabs. However as the "secure connections" only requires IPsec to function and it is not configure this was pointless. I've run out of idears as to what else I can do. All suggestions/questions welcome.

The Curric Users Group Policy folder redirection for My Documents is set to the standard: \\%HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH% As the Home folder is always going to be H:\ in this School I have changed it to "H:\" for the Home Folder, this should resolve the software not supporting UNC paths. For such a great product it is a shame that the Software lets it down.

This software does not support UNC paths for the Home folder - below is what tests I carried out to reacht his conclusion: I have ruled out permissions. I granted Full Access from the root of C to Pupils and this had no effect. Mandatory Profiles are in use so I created a new pupil with a local profile - this has had no effect. I forgot to mention that WinSuite AD was in use (o' the shame) - which I have removed. This has had no effect. Re-ran previous tests to come to this conclusion. The Home folder is redirected and mapped as H. I made the testpupil account use a local home folder, this allowed the software to save. I then tested this as the Administrator account, first with a local Home folder - this worked. I then re-assigned my Home folder to a share on the Server using a UNC path - re-opened the software -this failed to save as before. I then re-re-assigned my Home folder to a mapped H:\ drive and not a UNC path - re-opened the software and it successfuly saved.

Hello all, We have 15 of the 2GB Flip video cameras (fortunatley supplied with the latest firmware and video software as some seem to have had problems with earlier versions, Flip share video application unexpectedly quits - FixYa) Pupils cannot save their Videos, I have checked the permissions and we do not use disk quotas. Software installs as Administrator. Log in as a Pupil, click on Edit for a video, Save Now, Create New Albulm, this all works it creates the Flip Video Library & Prefs folders and the album folder in the Pupil's home folder. However when I click Save I get: "The Program is having trouble saving your videos because there is not enough free space on your hard dirsk to store the video files. You currently have 0 KB of available space, but 4291 KB is needed to store videos you selected. Please free up" I'm assuming it needs access to the CODEC or a folder for the conversion process, anyone know which I need to adjust the permissions for? I have had a look though using ProcMon and filtering but cannot see anything specific. It does make use of the files on the camear itself as well but pupils have access to these and if they want can create files and edit them - joy. The Pupils have all the the permissions except Full Control over thier folders. The drive storing the Pupils home folders has 60GB of free space. The Client PCs are Windows XP Pro with SP2, HP d230MT (Celeron 2.4GHz, 768MB RAM, 40GB HDD) connecting to a 2003 R2 SP2 DC.
