Am I right in thinking that Google for Education only supports certain tablets: https://support.google.com/edu/android/answer/3402682?hl=en I will buy a few more MediPads in the next few days but still need to work out the way forward managing a class set of them. I was thinking of setting up one as the admin tablet and the others as student tablets, all locked down and identical - but I'm not sure this is even possible. Or maybe the way to go is to set up each tablet as a 'kiosk'. I've not done this before and am a little out of my depth so any help on how to manage a class set of Huawei MediPad T3 10 tablets would be welcome. It's for a good cause (primary school in Cambodia ...)

I’m still trying to get my head around the best way to manage a class set of android tablets (Mediapad T3 10 Huawei). This is for a school in Cambodia, very poor, primary school, no money but some excellent donations of technology. Having spent time here teaching with tablets and using some apps, they make a massive difference to the classroom, many students have never had the chance to use any computer, although some are little sods and change the settings when your back is turned! At the moment, I have set them up as individual tablets. This isn’t ideal and I need to lock them down so Settings, Google Play Store etc isn’t available when I return in January. I’ve been looking at google education but this won’t work for us as you appear to have to set up each tablet for either one student, or for multiple students but only up to five students. We need the tablet to be able to be used by any student. I also struggled trying to register a non-gmail email, and failed as the school domain was bought from some obscure company! I can’t quite get my head around how I should set up these tablets, so one is an administrator, and all the others can be set up identically (very important) with only allowable apps available, and any student can use it. Ideally, I’d like to somehow manage the tablets, add apps etc remotely, when in the UK. I intending buying a couple of these tablets in the UK in December when I’m back in the UK to set up and experiment with but am trying to formulate a plan whilst still here in Cambodia. I am at a primary school in Cambodia, very poor, no money for anything, very limited resources but we have 8 donated android tablets (mediatab t3 10 Huawei) and internet access, and they are brilliant for these students. I have set each one up using a unique email address for each one. Now i’ve done it, I was wondering whether I should have used the same email address for each one. I was thinking then that if I buy an app, I could download it successfully onto each tablet, whereas at the moment, I’d have to pay eight times. There are no copyright laws in Cambodia! What do you think? Is what I’m thinking possible to do, even if very slightly unethical (in the West)? Thanks

I’m at a primary school in Cambodia, very poor, no money, no resources, very basic English, no money for worksheets, photocopying etc but we do have the Internet and 8 recently donated tablets, and a whiteboard and pens. I’ve been trying to find complete but free schemes of work, books, resources etc but have failed. I was hoping to find a kind of wiki for English language teaching. I also want to get some complete courses of books and get them photocopied (no copyright laws here) so any recommendations? Anyone got any ideas or links? Has to be totally free as in free beer though. Thanks.

Thanks. What I was really thinking of is to set up one tablet with all the apps they can be used. Then clone this image to the other tablets. Things like email won't be used. We are talking a very poor school, no money for anything, no support of any kind until I visit. Am looking for a simple way of cloning tablets and if one gets messed around with, it can be easily recloned. Sorry if I sound like a noddy (I am 😊).

Thanks for the reply. It looks like you need a domain name registered and an email for that domain name. The school doesn't have these. It looks pretty complicated as well!

I'm at a school in Cambodia. We have just aquired a set of new Huawei T3 10 Mediapad tablets. I will be setting them up over the next week, adding apps for learning English for children most of whom are under 10 years old with very basic English. Any top tips for doing this and maintaining them please? I want them to be all the same, to be able to recover an image, to lock them down if possible and to make them as easy to use as possible. I am only in Cambodia two or three times a year and there is noone here at the school who can do anything complicated. Simplicity of management is key! Thanks for think about this.
