  1. To respond to whether they need to add static routes back for each subnet.. I assume they can just put a summary static route that covers all of them right?
  2. With everything being on the same subnet we don't have our own layer 3 device doing any routing at the moment.. all devices currently just have the the LA router as there default gateway.. What has now been suggested by the LA is they set up a point to point connection from there L3 switch to our new core switch with a separate /30 subnet. They will then route the entire subnet to our core switch (And from what I have been reading in this thread I assume that because they are routing the whole subnet back to our L3 core switch.. any subnetting I do within this range will route back ok?) Thanks for all the responses so far
  3. Just a quick question currently have a flat network looking to subnet and implement some vlans. Current allocated range provided by LA is 10.x.y.y/22. If i was to create seperate vlans and subnet these down into 10.x.x.y/24 would the lea need to change the route backs or would I be ok as long as I subnetted within my allocated range. Currently seeing conflicting things so which is right? the LA need to add a route to each vlan via your core switch otherwise traffic will not get back to the clients No they don't as long as 1. He subnets within his exist assigned LA range. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yea that would be great please and thanks for the help Will everything (all vlans) route ok back and fourth out to the internet from the core switch to the bgfl 3550 despite the port been untagged. The real reason for us looking at implementing vlans was mainly to try and reduce broadcast traffic. Feel free to make suggestions though as It's great to hear people's opinions and recommendations. Thanks for all the info btw
  6. Looking back at this now I have included a quick diagram of how things kind of look currently. As stated we currently have a layer 2 core switch with a flat network. The plan is to get a new layer 3 core switch and implement a couple of vlans. So if I swap out our current core switch for a layer 3 and setup the vlan interfaces on this so I can do the routing between vlans within our internal network. And then on our core switch set the default gateway to the current default gateway issued by the BGFL, obviously I cannot touch any of the settings on anything above our core switch so this is where I am getting abit lost with ensuring the different vlans can route out to the internet. (I'm presuming this will be fine because I am going to subnet within our given 10. range). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  8. Pretty much same scenario. How do those hp core switches treat you? if anyone has any suggestions of a budget L3 switch?
  9. First post was kind of rushed so just to add would my best option here be to just have a L3 Core switch underneath bgfls Cisco 3550 switch and just do my intervlan routing through that? If so what is a good budget L3 switch? Thanks
  10. Hi all, I am looking to make some changes to our network. We currently have a flat network but I am wanting to create separate vlans. However our internet is provided by bgfl so we have a typical Cisco 3550 series switch which then feeds to our own core switch. What is the best option to route between the vlans as obviously I can't touch the Cisco 3550 Switch as it is managed by bgfl. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
