Hi all,
I wonder if you can help me please? I have a RAID 1 configuration in my Dell T610 with H700 RAID controller for the system drive. The SAS Drives are Dell branded Seagate ST3300657SS. One drive predicted to fail. I have just purchased a Seagate ST3300657SS (not Dell branded) and screwed it into the original hot swap enclosure (after removing the faulty drive). I am getting a Red 'X' Dell Open Manage Server Administrator software, drive failed. Updated H700 firmware, swapped bays but still showing as failed. Would you say my brand new drive is faulty or I need to initialise the drive somehow before it recognised? I tried to add it as a 'Hot Spare' in the software but it says I have no suitable drives available. Interestingly there is a clicking sound on start-up for a few seconds, the original drive does not do this. Also the capacity of this new drive is not showing in the software. I am wondering if there is any difference between the Dell branded Seagate ST3300657SS and the Seagate branded ST3300657SS which I have purchased to replace it (e.g. am I missing some much needed firmware?). Why can't it just work! (sob!)
Many thanks for any help, I am incredibly grateful.
Rich
