  1. Brilliant that makes total sense! I was a parent at the school before I was a teacher so I suspect they set me up as a separate contact when I joined the school as a teacher. You have been a great help. Thank you
  2. Thank you for your reply. So are parents a record on SIMS in their own right? I assumed as a parent I was just a field in my child's record for name, telephone number and email. I am Mrs as a parent and Miss as a teacher on SIMS so I didn't think they were linked. I can see how the scenario mentioned with staff emails going to personal email addresses would be an issue. Which makes their suggestion wrong in that I set up a forwarding rule in outlook to send any messages from Intouch to my personal email.
  3. Hi I am a teacher at a school my child attends. School have just decided that because of a data breach that happened a couple of years ago (not told exactly what) they have changed my personal email as a contact for my child to my work (school) email. They insist that it can't be any difference. Is this honestly the case? It really isn't practical. Many thanks

  6. Thank you all for your input. I also emailed our Clevertouch supplier yesterday to say we were still having issues. They sent a engineer out today and we spent the whole morning trying out various hdmi to mini DisplayPort adapters/cables and VGA to mini Displayport adapters and cables. This seems to have solved it, hdmi to displayport cable works, adapters don't. So far so good anyway. The drivers Clevertouch gave me were by Touchbase so it is a bit of a triangle of suppliers going on.
  7. Also if there are different users make sure the certificate is in system in the keychain access so it is valid for all users.
  8. These sort of issues are often as a result of Proxy. We have a Protex filtering system and we had to download a certificate from them to access Google (and obviously Chrome). This is their link page: Installing ProtexRootCA certificates It explains what the problem is. Maybe your filtering system has a similar set up?
  9. I am really struggling to get the Mac Airs in school to work well with the Clevertouch screens we have. I can get them to show on the screen but the resolution on either the mac or the screen doesn't fit right and I've tried different settings. The mac air never remembers that I want the display mirrored after restarting each time. The HDMI connection can be flaky depending on which screen, sometimes the screen has interference, some time despite the sound set to monitor it disappears. So I mostly connect with VGA & audio cable. Touch is the real issue - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. When it does it's not great. I have 3 separate drivers that Clevertouch have given me, depending on which screen or which OSX which makes moving around to use different screens an issue as you can only have one driver on a mac at a time. Clevertouch have gone back to the factory to try to at least get me one driver that work for all but they do have concerns that OSX isn't really suited to touch devices. I just wondered if any other schools used Macs in schools and how they worked with boards? It's not an issue with IOS devices as obviously they are good with touch. Many thanks
  10. Coffee just doesn't taste as good unless it is in my NetSupport Mug Al_NetSupport
  11. Thanks for your suggestions - I will get one upgraded with SSD & RAM - then I can present a much more cost effective alternative solution. You have all been very helpful, much appreciated.
  12. They do log on at home with a cached domain profile. At home they do not have access to the server only through Foldr. It's more the case the time it takes open applications, documents etc.
  13. Hi Thanks for your feedback. There are most definitely other issues affecting performance. The Dell Server 2008 is due to be renewed this summer and the set up I inherited is extremely random, a concoction of really strange gpos and batch files. The laptops are still on windows 7, the plan is to move all to windows 10 as a rollout after the new server. The switches are HP1820. The wifi is fine, just upgraded to Ruckus. Feedback from the teachers are the laptops are slow when being used at home as well at school so thanks for the suggestions to upgrade to SSDs & extra RAM.
  14. Hi All Next financial year the headteacher wants to to start a rolling programme of replacing teacher laptops with Mac air. Personally I prefer Macs but I'm not entirely sure if this is the right way to go. Our children use Toshiba Windows laptops, HP Chromebooks and iPads and currently teachers have Toshiba Satellite Pro laptops (i3). Teachers constantly complain about how slow their laptops are, so I think this is one of the drivers behind replacing them with Macs. I am concerned about these issues with the move: We have a Dell windows server with central drives used by everyone. I know I can add Macs to active directory but managing that further isn't totally clear. I have the network drives mapped to my mac but that doesn't always work seamlessly. Teachers having a different operating system to demonstrate to children how to do something like saving work etc. Teachers having to learn how to use Macs as opposed to windows. Cost (including cable accessories!) Interaction with Smartboards & Clevertouch boards - so far tests have shown problems with the touch side. I would really appreciate your thoughts, whether anyone has made this move and if not Mac what alternative you suggest to deal with the poor performing current laptops. Many thanks
