A client was recently complaining of slow network speeds. I ran Wireshark and it seem the network is being overwhelmed by SMB2 instances; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Client IP > Server IP - SMB2 - Create Request File: Follwed by Server IP > Client IP - SMB2 - Create Response, ERROR : STATUS_FILE_IS_A_DIRECTORY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  There are literally hundreds of these per minute, per user which is completely overwhelming the network. After a bit of investigation they seem to be linked to having mapped drives, as soon as I disconnect the mapped drives the errors stop. The user doesn't even have to be doing anything, you can log in and just leave the machine alone but it continues to spam these errors, the errors seem to be one per mapped drive, if they have 8 mapped drives they get 8 errors, 2 mapped drives they get 2 errors etc etc. I have clients that are Windows 7 and Windows 10 so it doesn't seem to be linked to a particular OS. So far I've tried; Ensuring Windows Server up to date Mapping drives based off FQDN and IP Mapping drives from different drives on the server (C: and D:) Trying a test mapped drive which is a completely empty folder and is open to all users Mapping the drives via GPO and Logon Script and Manually Removing the AntiVirus Disabling Firewall Running CHKDSK on all server drives Running virus and malware scans on server Logging into client machines as administrator Moving client machine into an OU with no active group policies None of these things have changed anything at all I've attached the Wireshark results from both the create request and then the error. Hi, I'm trying to set up ADRMS for a customer so I'm trying to test it on a virtual domain, I've tried on two different domains, one in VMWare and one in Hyper V and both times I hit the same error I set up Server 2012, set it up as a DC and add the ADRMS service I set up a W10 client, added to the domain installed office I've followed the general microsoft instructions including ensuring that; My users have an email address in their AD account Ive added rms.hope.local and also http://rms.hope.local into the clients intranet area in internet options Ive enabled anonymous authentication for license and service locator.asmx in IIS Enabled allow exporting in the 'specify templates fie location' that location exists, and can be access by all staff When I open excel or what ever on my client and I attempt to protect my document with rights management, I get; "Sorry. something went wrong with opening Information Rights Management protected content. The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting bla bla bla" I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could shed some light on this. Thanks

its basically a spreadsheet with macros and variables they use for planning jobs and getting final costs, we are lead to believe it would be a massive issue if a competitor got a hold of it. Other than management, staff should just be able to use it and that't it, can save it, copy it, attach it, upload it, or take it home at all in any way.

but even if I disabled the use of USB drives, in theory a staff member could email the file out or upload it to drop box etc. I know it's probably impossible to have a 100% water tight solution but blocking USB drives would still leave a great deal of holes.

Hi, I need to find a way to stop a user taking a particular file offsite. (.xls) Or if they manage to get the file off site, make it useless. I need to ensure staff can't simply 'save as' and create a copy of the file There is a software called 'Secudrive File Server' which seems to be perfect but it's seriously expensive. Is anyone aware of software that creates a secure zone of sorts with certain software installed?.....or can anyone thing of a way to keep a file absolutely protected? I know it's a bit of a Pandora's box, my apologies.

Hi, It's doesn't seem to linked to power point, it's rarely used, it can happen at any time; being on the internet, using active inspire, using word/excel. I'll certainly try what you've said as anything is worth a shot, cheers.

Hi, I've tried searching for this and couldn't find anything, so apologies in advance if it's covered elsewhere. A few of out schools have recently switched to Windows 10 and there seems to be a running problem across all of them. Randomly, across a multitude of different models, the classroom laptops switch between duplicate displayed and extended desktop. Some classrooms it's daily, some it's never happened once, but there is no set pattern or laptop/driver in common with the machines it happens on. It easily be changed back with windows+P but ideally I'd like Windows 10 to stop doing it and stick with duplicate. Has anyone else encountered and/or resolved this? Thanks
