Thankfully the guy that set up our VDI is decent with networking the plan was to have the guests in a separate VLAN with ACLs and firewall rules to reduce the traffic down to the absolute minimum. Not a perfect sandbox but we at least have a lot of centralised control over it. I admit our hosts are struggling a little with 40+ guests. Storage performance is even worse. It will certainly require investment if we ever get it up and running.

Just wondering what your setups are for providing a secure, suitable solution to the computer science curriculum in a secondary school? For the past two years we have been running a local VirtualBox VM with the software installed. But last year the software stopped working for unknown reasons. I've brought it up for help on the VirtualBox forums and I exhausted their knowledge. It's completely unusable. The obvious problem is that it's free software and we're left on our own no matter how bad the issue is. I think we came to the conclusion that the HW was just too old. As a replacement we are trying to get a Hyper-V VDI solution running. This looks like an ideal solution; it allows students to have a persistent machine, we can apply GP, ACLs, firewall rules, map drives etc. But again we are having an issue with the guests failing to connect sometimes. We're still working on this.

I tried setting the reportsuser as a local admin, same error. The SIMS account isn't AD linked, maybe that's the problem? Is that easy to set up for one user? I'm running it manually while I'm setting it up so I've got: "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SIMS2012\MSSQL\Binn\autoreports.exe" /S:myservername\sims2012 /D:sims /T The account has the same permissions as a staff member. It has a SIMS account with the same username and password. Does anyone have any instructions, the ones from Crapita are...well crap.

(I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or not but I've run into another issue with this.) When running autoreports.exe with the /S /D and /T flags I get the following error: I assume it's permissions but not sure whether they are NTFS, SIMS or even SQL permissions. I may also be way off with my guess.

Ignore me, I'm an idiot. I needed to click the Add Permissions to the Group button on the right in System Manager

Just setting up scheduled reports and the instructions I have say to "...select the roles of the individuals who will be responsible for setting up the scheduling of autoreports e.g. School Administrator and System Manager" which isn't helpful because neither of them have the 'Core > Home Page > Report Execution Manager' permission. Does anyone know which role contains this?

A colleague of mine posted this up on TechNet already but didn't much of a response, we wondered if we would get a better one from here. "We have a large deployment of Windows 7 machines all managed by group policies. All users have their Documents redirected to a file server as well as their other key libraries i.e. Music, videos, pictures, downloads, favourites etc - despite this users are continually saving files into their roaming profile. What I would like to do is, remove the shortcut to a users profile from the windows address bar to try and dissuade users from saving into their profile - please see the image below; I can't find any group policy settings to remove this link?"
