What worked for us on 2004 was setting deny permissions for everyone on the copy of credprovhost.mui.dll in the following folder (had to take ownership): 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.LanguageExperiencePacken-GB_19038.0.1.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Windows\System32\en-GB' It's likely overkill, there may be some unforseen side-effects and there's probably a better way of doing it but we'll roll with what works for now. I'm guessing if you've got a Language Experience Pack installed and a resource can't be accessed, it automatically falls back to the default one.

For those of you that run Google Chrome on your domain, how do you roam the User Data folder? The two best approaches at the moment seem pretty archaic - redirect to a network share (cripples our file server due high I/O) or let it live inside a roaming profile (lengthy logon/logoff times). Default behaviour for Chrome is to discard User Data at logoff and third party UEM solutions (we've specifically tested Microsoft's UE-V) show limited success.

We run a Windows/OS X dual boot set-up for about 40 or so machines in the building and have found users home folders to be somewhat messy - along with the Windows known folders (My Music, My Videos, Downloads etc.) we've also got the OS X mainstays (Music, Movies, Documents etc.) hence multiple folders with the same purpose. Currently we've got redirection in place to handle this on the Windows side, however, would it make sense to have the Windows and the OS X folders pointing at the same place (e.g. instead of My Videos, we'd have that redirected to the OS X-created Movies folder)? My main concern is the My Documents folder which is currently pointing at the home folder as per multiple 'best practise' documents - would redirecting it to 'Documents' be likely to break anything?

+1 for setting shortcuts through GPP - shortcuts don't show up on machines without the software installed. Ours are set at the machine level so perms aren't an issue.

In Group Policy, User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> User Profiles -> Exclude directories in roaming profiles (Desktop;Documents;Music;Pictures;Videos;Saved Games for us) - this assumes you've got those folders redirected. To OP - have you got your Start Menu redirected in Group Policy?
