  1. Thanks for the reply what do you mean by run cleanup ??? I plan on setting up a virtual network first and trying on that before i delve into the live system.
  2. No there is no exchange server etc just trying to see if it's possible at the moment also trying to consider any knock on effects such as certificates or installs etc that rely on the FQDN.
  3. Has anyone any info on how to do this we wish to move from a .local domain to something like .internal etc basically because the school has made a massive apple investment recently so this obviously now causes an issue, is there a way of doing it on the fly so to speak without having to flatten everything ???
  4. Thanks for the reply it's office 2013 pro been searching for ages but none of the so called solutions are working, they dont have a WSUS server and updates have been turned off so not to sure whats causing the problem.
  5. Has anyone come across this error before, Every time one of the children log onto a laptop it opens showing the following error; 'Your Autocorrect file, MSO2057.acl, could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or you may not have permission to modify the file.' I have tried repairing the installation and that had no effect, un-installed and re-installed and still no joy. I have scanned for a virus with Sophos and Avast and then used 3 different anti-spyware solutions and all comes up clean so really not sure what's causing the problem and I really don't want to have to re-image them all :-(. But if you log on as a member of staff then everything is fine, it's only started happening since returning after xmas so cant see it being a policy issue as nothing has changed on that side of things. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Not really sure to be honest TT he just said virtualisation was not an option, cant understand it myself to be honest. I am really considering flattening everything and creating a new domain though (in effect starting again) as apparantly 3 support companies have had there hands on this server so dont want to spend all my time fire fighting what they have done.
  7. Thanks for the replies guys, no idea about budget as it's the school paying for it so more than likely going to be as little as possible im afraid, will no a little more on that one this afternoon. As for VM I'm afraid thats out the question as well as the boss doesn't want them, I have tried explaining the case but i dont think hes interested.
  8. Hi Guys, I am new to the forum so please be gentle :-) I have been thrown in the deep end a little and have been tasked with replacing a server at a mid size primary school, they currently are running a single 2008 R2 server with the usual roles, AD, DHCP, DNS etc. What's my best options to replace the server with a new one running Server 2012, as I am not sure what the previous support company did to the server I am tempted to just rip it out and replace it with the new one, different name and IP etc, I realise I would have to go round each PC and laptop and join them to the new domain etc. But would I have to dcpromo the old domain or could I just take it out as all users etc would be re-created ?? The other option is obviously to join as a member server promote to DC to allow replication of AD then import DHCP and DNS (although would I still have to transfer the FMSO roles) ??? then dcpromo the old DC down ??? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I would like this to go as smoothly as possible :-)
