** Update: I was not able to get the latest FW as the current (and last) version, 2010.11.17 (A) 9 Mar 2011, requires a service contract. However, the previous version, 2010.10.25 (A) 8 Dec 2010, was available. After wasting an hour trying to get the USB Stick method to work, I used their CDROM method and burned a disk from the provided ISO. 15 minutes later I was able to enable the Virtualzation features on the CPU.
The free FW update can be found at this HP location (at least on Pi Day 2015, 3/14/15). [i did a Google search on "proliant dl160 g5 bios update," searched for DR-DOS updates, and the FW update that was "entitled" had a link to the previous version, which was free--and marked "critical".
*** end Update
I am having a similar problem with my DL160 G5. I run Ubuntu Linux and need to get the VT instructions enabled so that I can run do some work with Virtualbox. I downloaded the last SP DVD image that supported the G5 and ran it to upgrade. But it doesn't seem like anything changed. I have no ability to enable the VT instructions.
My Main BIOS version is 012 (02/11/2007)
My RSBU BIOS is 2.61 (AMI)
I used the HP SUM Service Pak DVD from 6/2014, which advertises itself as being the last one that supported the G5 series.
I am hoping you can provide a little more info from your experience that will help me identify what I need to get/do to gain the ability to enable this feature on the CPU.
