Cheers both. I eventually got through to their sales line and I've let them know.

Clearing cookies and reloading the site causes the site to redirect on the next refresh, and for adverts to start popping up again. I'm pretty much 100% that they've had their site hacked!

It definitely happens going through Google. I've just remoted into another school and it's also happening from that school. I'd ring them, but there's no point, you just go around in circles in their automated menus and then get a message to email!

If I search for parentmail, click on the Google link, it sits like this for ages: Note the URL loading at the bottom. After a few minutes it times out and loads this: We only get this the first time we load the page, every subsequent page refresh it goes straight to the proper site. I've so far tested this on: our simsserver, a Windows 10 desktop even a brand new imaged Windows 10 PC, with me as the first logged in user. Can anyone replicate this?? (you might need to try a PC without and adblocker on). If it's them, they obviously need telling, but I also want to make sure it's not us! (AV isn't picking anything up, and there are no plugins loaded).

We're definitely moving to group policy from Monday, but I think I might have sussed this (information just supplied in case anyone else chances on this thread): It seems to be a local profile caching issue. I'm guessing this is some oddity of using a VBS script (?), but for the users with issues; I've noticed they have a cached copy of the vbs script (still pointing to \\oldserver) in C:\users\\AppData\Local\GroupPolicy\DataStore\0\SysVol\domain.local\Policies\\User\Scripts\Logon on their local machine. I'm not going to do much testing, because as I said, we're moving to GPOs, but deleting that file does seem to fix the issue.

That's definitely what I'd like to do. It's how we do it elsewhere. I think what put me off is that the network share already exists and I was afraid of a conflict when the GPO tried to use the same drive. I guess I was just being lazy by using the existing solution. I'll do some testing

Hey. We did a server migration over summer from 2012 to 2019. All the shares were copied across, the policies look okay, the FSMO roles are transferred. DNS and DHCP are copied over, etc. All the other server migrations we've done previously have gone okay, but this time, it's 50/50 if a user connects to a network share on the old server or the new server. I inherited the old server, and for some reason, whoever put it in used a VBS script for network shares rather than a GPO or a bat file. The script is kind of as follows: On Error Resume next Dim WshNetwork Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") Set objSysInfo = CreateObject("ADSystemInfo") Set objNetwork = CreateObject("Wscript.Network") strUserPath = "LDAP://" & objSysInfo.UserName Set objUser = GetObject(strUserPath) WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "M:" WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:" objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "W:", "\\newserver\Workspace" objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "M:", "\\newserver\simsroot" I've obviously manually changed \\oldserver to \\newserver in the above script (I've searched for the script server wide and changed every copy, on both servers). This is then called by a GPO for each group of users in User Config, Scripts, Logon. But, like I said above, I can have two users, in exactly the same OU, have them both log on at exactly the same time, and one user will have W: pointed at \\newserver\Workspace and one user pointed at \\oldserver\Workspace. With limited testing, a gpupdate /force does seem to fix the issue, but of course that's PC dependent (i.e. if the user then logs onto another machine it's 50/50 again). If a machine decides to connect to \\oldserver leaving it 15 minutes+ and rebooting does not seem to force the change. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance.

one of our schools is a small infants. They don't have enough iPads for one-on-one, and the pupils are too young to manage shared iPads (besides which, I think some are too small to set up as shared). The previous tech set the iPads up so they were all just logged into a single normal (not ASM) Apple account to create a load of pooled iPads that anyone can just pick up and use. The problem is, the way they've been setup, they're asking for the username/password combination all the time. I need to wipe them all anyway, how can I improve things? Has anyone ever tried creating one single teacher ASM account, and one single pupil account and logging in one iPad with the teacher account and the rest of the iPads with the (one single) pupil account? Can you even do that? We're using Meraki for MDM.

That's interesting. We nearly always use Kingston drives, so it was very likely that my issue above was with the combination of Toshiba's dodgy bios and a Kingston drive. We have a couple more Toshiba's hanging on in one of our school, once those are dead/replaced, I hope to never see one again for the rest of my days!

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot I even posted on this thread! That's different to the universal mount we have. I think the one we have is for Promethean +2 boards.
-
Which boom arm is it? If it's a Promethean boom arm I've got a packaged/brand new universal mount that I'd be willing to sell for a bit less than market value (we bought it for a job, and when we went do the install the client then decided they no-longer wanted a projector and wanted to buy a Clevertouch instead).

One of our schools started using this and it's something I've never really come across before... Has anyone else had problems with it? All the teachers (and I do mean ALL of them, not just one or two) are saying that work is randomly disappearing and they regularly can't access it (usually the iOS app won't load, but sometimes even the website). We've had Google Support onto it, and whilst I usually find them to be excellent, more than one person has said they can't help with Classroom because there's a lack of logging and tools on their side for Classroom The iOS app gets absolutely slated on the App Store, so I'm just wondering if the entire platform is wobbly and if we're better off moving elsewhere ASAP? Or are we having unique problems?

Remote access (using RDS)

Setup a VPN on the Smoothwall and have people VPN in, and then RDP internally. It's much safer. If you log a call with Smoothwall, they'll even set it up for you! -
It's been that way for years. This is an issue that has affected every school I've worked in, for numerous years (I'm going back at least 6 or 7 years that we've been stuck struggling to find the old 5.7 drivers because the new ones wont work). This is an issue that most affect tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of older devices, and Promethean still haven't fixed it! I seem to remember there was a Promethean guy who posted on here. He once posted on a similar thread that the latest driver releases had fixed this issue, so I tried it on a few of our PCs, and nope, it was/is still broken (and we had to revert to 5.7 again). Having such a major issue unresolved for such a length of time really is pretty shabby. Things like this do hurt sales (as people reflect on the hours wasted as they make upgrade decisions), you'd have thought in the 6+ years that this has been an issue, that someone would have taken notice of the numerous complaints! (FWIW, we've now replaced nearly all the Promethean boards with Clevertouch).

Bad luck. The only time I've had to use an Epson warranty it was 3 days inside the end of the warranty.

Have you checked the warranty status? Epsom are usually 5 year for education.

sedaolive.com network spam... possibly Clevertouch?
Cazale replied to Cazale's topic in Wired Networks
Cheers. I thought so. I just wanted to check before I made a fool of myself and submitted a bug report to the wrong company -
Hi, Anyone else seeing constant network traffic requests to https://www.sedaolive.com/? We don't have any Digital Signage boards, the only thing close is Clevertouch. The amount of network traffic is insane. Smoothwall is reporting 177519 requests in the last 24 hours! Anyone else with Clevertouch seeing this?

We've upgraded nearly almost all of our schools to Windows 10 without issue. Most of them now have Clevertouch, but a couple still use nearly all old Promethean. Did you try Activ driver 5.7? (I've had issues with all subsequent versions, even on Windows 7).
-
Spent this morning trying to upgrade one of these to Windows 10 (and putting an SSD in it while upgrading the OS), and had exactly the same problem as you. Reading here and forums elsewhere it's clearly a bug with UEFI in their BIOS. "I would have to raise a post sales change request which will incur a cost in the region of £10,000 as they would have to rewrite the BIOS. This is not something that Toshiba UK is willing to pay for" - what a joke this reply is. They're effectively saying "we sold you something that doesn't work, it's going to cost us money to get it repaired, we're not paying it, so that's tough luck on you". Great customer service skills! I inherited this laptop from a previous IT tech. I wouldn't buy Toshiba kit if you paid me. Reading this response just reinforces my view of them.

Hey. We've just started using Shared iPad accounts. When we use (i.e.) iMovie it saves the finished file to the cloud. When the pupil goes to icloud on a PC, and enters their username and password, they get a 2FA challenge that says "Enter verification code provided by your organisation". The 2FA challenge does not appear on the iPad they are using, nor is it available in settings. I'm a bit confused as to where we get the verification code? Thanks in advance.
-
This didn't work. I managed to save the file in the correct format, but it wouldn't open properly. We rescued an old Windows 7 laptop we'd planned to obsolete. They're going to manually do this year's accounts and then transfer over to new software next year.

I PM'd you. Let me know if it works.

There is a way to do it. You press a combination of keys on the remote and it brings up a service menu where (among other things) you can reset it. I'm not sure of the wisdom of posting instructions on a public forum (and I guess @Clevertouch_Rob would have replied with the answer if they wanted it in the public domain), so I won't post the combination. It was Clevertouch support who told me how to do it after we had issues with touch being locked out on a screen, so maybe open a ticket?
