Hi Guys, I've got sysprep workin now. Am I right in thinking that instead of using the -reboot switch (which I assume is for tesring) you remove that switch and allow sysprep to run on the first boot after deploying the image? Cheers, Jed

Thanks for the LDAP reference, i'll base mine on that. I have left it blank for now, just to make sure that mt AD integration is working, which it is now. I changed my Domain Name to seafordhead.e-sussex.sch.uk. I think I was over thinking it using an LDAP reference for the domain name.

I tried running that a minute ago, it came back with a syntax error. I copied it straight from the fogwiki. I am just going to run another deploy and check the fog.log to see if the client is trying to join the domain at all. Still think I may have the default active directory settings wrong.

Already tried that, I've got the hostname changer working, just the AD causing a problem. Still thinking that I've got the config wrong for the defualt AD settings.

Ran the Fogcrypt tool. Changed the hostnamechanger.dll and added it to the client. installed XP power tools on the client. Using my admin account to test as I am sure this has the rights to join to the domain. I can only assume it is my setup on the server. Hense my question about the setup of the default AD settings. Can someone give me a template of theirs, so I can compare? Cheers, Jed

Question: Should I be using LDAP format in the default AD settings to represent the domain and the OU?

I may be being a little dense here but I always thought Sysprep was just so that an image can be passed to a machine with a different hardware setup? How can this replace NewSID and apply a new SID to each rebuilt PC?

Hi Guys, Fog is running perfectly for now. The only issue is that when I take an image the task is shows as queued even as the task is running. the only way I can be sure it's running is by watching the space used increase after refreshing the web admin.... Any ideas? Cheers, Jed

Is anyone experiencing problems with this software? Our kids are moving from machine to machine to logon. I am going to ask them just to try over and over on the same machine next to eliminate the local software from the potential issue list. We think it is something to do with the NCFE server not handling large amounts of logons at once. We have also noticed this on other java/flash based explorer apps. thanks in advance, Jed

We worked on the fact that if we can't decide how legit it is then we can't be 100% sure it is legal, which is what we are told by county we need to be about this kind of thing. In short: we blocked it.

Just a note to this thread. In order to install fog I had to switch a few times between our proxy address and unfiltered address. Hope this saves some time for someone!

Got it! Thanks guys, I was using our unfiltered proxy but this wasn't working properly, I've changed to our proxy and my username password and it is working! Hoorah! Cheers guys, legendary as ever!

I am behind a proxy I have entered my username/password in the following format: Username Password should I be using: domainname\username password ?

I have just tried sudo apt-get install apache2 Got an error saying E: couldn't find package apache2 I am assuming that fog installs all of these for you....am i wrong there? If so what can I do to install apache2?

I have already done that. I can start the installation fine, but it is towards the end of the installation the problem crops up.

Hi Guys, I can't get fog to install on ubuntu 9.04 desktop! It gets as far as installing packages but as soon as it checks the installations it stops at the first one and says Checking installation ..... apache2 failed! Then it just stops! I thought it maybe a connection to the internet but that seems to be working fine. Any ideas?

Thanks dude, I am more concerned about viruses at the moment as I am going to be using the proxy to install the software. We have quite a substantial firewall as per usual it isn't 100% secure. should I be thinking about something to combat this or am I being a little OTT? Just interested in what other people have done and what is the "norm" when doing something like this with a Linux machine. Thanks again! Jed

This is different to what we were told, even up to 2 weeks ago, we understood this differently. We were recently told this at a Uniservity meeting, however, at BETT we were led to believe you had an option to replace Uniservity with Moodle. Slightly concerning! Still atleast Uniservity are finally listening.....these changes can't come soon enough!

Hi Matt, Would that not disable OWA altogether for each user? I would still have to let them gain access externally, just not in the college.

Hi Guys, We have recently moved over to exchange 2007 and have the new OWA that goes with it. The Children have realised that they can access their email through OWA when in the college as their email is usually blocked by netop when they are in lessons. Having come to the conclusion that they have outlook on all PC's, they won't need OWA within the college, so have tried to block it through our RM filter. This has not stopped it at all, I have tried every URL the OWA is kicking up but can't seem to block it. I am assuming that it is because you can't specify https:// through the RM filter. Any ideas? (Apart from ditching RM ) Jed

This will mean, either you will have Uniservity or Moodle. It is yet to be seen how this will be setup, however if Uniservity charge people as they do now, they will not beable to justify such a high fee if people keep their platform in-house. As I see it they have one option, to host Moodle and administer it from their side. Also the GPL licence is full of holes. If Uniservity make a profit from hosting Moodle as part of a package, which they will be, then they are breaking the GPL licence terms. Hence, Uniservity should be paying for it, Moodle should not let them get away with not paying for it. I was well informed of this yesterday after I had the same view, having looked into it I came to the conclusion of the above aswell. If we have any GPL Licencing geeks on here, I'd be more than happy to be set straight as I am no expert and this would save us all money!
