Picked up my one last week. Taking time to get used to Android, but a fairly good phone. Good advice from nearly all reviews about getting a case asap as it is so slippy (roped and caught twice within the first hour). Finding the screen a bit glarey, and the screen protector I tried hasn't helped, but could find any matt screen protectors for it. Have had it fully loaded with apps and it got bogged down a bit, but still pretty responsive. Battery is good ... getting 3 days on idle and a full day on active use.

In 2000 I set up a webcam for the part of a school build using an old LCiii and a Color QuickCam ... amazing what you could do with old kit and a bit of bluetack

If you are serious about Open Source in Education then here are a number of existing projects that have either run and died, or run and come to a completion (and often not really gotten anywhere). In the same way that anyone with an interest can become a mechanic, you need to have a certain leave of certified professional aptitude to be an MOT tester. Having some sort of baseline would be a good starting point. It is scary for those of us without trade certs (which provide evidence to your capabilities) but if people want to have professional recognition and all that goes with it, then being part of an association that holds those standards is a key part.

As MATs grow, the person running the operational areas (including Finance, HR, etc.) is more likely to have come from a non-teaching background, and is more switched on to the investment in CPD. Larger Academy groups get this, and will run training (United Learning have trained most of there staff to FITS practitioner) but more needs to be done. IT support will change in schools but it will still be needed. Cloud, BYOD and other changes are technical changes that *have* to be matched by organisational / operational changes (data protection, contracts, etc.) and this is where it falls down. Personally, I would love to see BCS get a grip of professionalisation of IT is schools, but I've pushed on that for the last 10 years and have gotten nowhere. As the College of Teaching picks up, we have to push for the recognition of chartered status in other roles (as per CoT's agreement) and the only way that will happen is if more of us gain chartered status.

It's a mobile AV editing suite case. The power cables would connect into converters, battery charging units, depending on what was being used. The right hand side has a place for a small 3 chip camera. The one I used to play with was slightly large to also hold the external mic. A separate carry-all held the tripod and boom for the mic, as well as a storage box for the tapes.

I can remember my worst lesson at school was history, a subject I loved but wasn't fantastic at. Cue the 3rd form (year 9 in today's setup) and the History wrote his notes on the board ... and we had to copy them down. As a slow writer it was heartbreaking for me to see blank sections in my notes and having to spend hours borrowing notes from others. We asked him to slow down and he refused. We had to speed up. Eventually, I was even banned from borrowing notes as I was 'being lazy in class'. A bad teacher is a bad teacher, no matter if using a blackboard, a whiteboard, an IWB, PowerPoint, Prezi or any other tool.

No, the testing on the camera is more a case of remotely turning it on and off. It is more a case of testing performance of our software, following QA scripts and new features / betas of our software. Looks like this is the one I'll go for then, unless anyone has a better recommendation.

Looking to get a new work phone, has to be Android (will also do some testing on it) so would folk say that this is the best on the market at the moment to go for?

Got one here, usually used as my foot rest, but still has some Final Cut projects I go into. Running Tiger ... but slowly, with a 40GB drive and 512 Meg of RAM ... it works quite well. I have an old DV camera (bloody expensive, shoulder mount one) with FireWire, so use it for getting stuff off that when needed. Slot-loading drive has died but have an external Combi drive that I use (use a USB 3 powered hub to give it juice) but I have limited space on my desk to get it out as much as I would like.
