We're just looking at these for our fine establishment and I was going to investigate this: https://whispercast.amazon.com/ - wondered if you or others were aware of it and had any experience? If not I will trial and report back. Re. proxy settings, a staff member had one that I let on our guest wifi and I seem to remember being surprised that it took the proxy details. They may have well have addressed that.
