  1. We are looking at maybe seeing if there is something better than Sanako for our language labs. We are slowly moving away from "labs" but we've had Sanako forever.....and it's really expensive, costing us like $38k a year. And it isn't being used a lot.... Is there something pretty much the same that is way cheaper?
  2. This is where you'd get a generator. Which is not really something most school sites can afford. Our main datacenter building has one, but the sites have MDFs and IDFs that have APC units in there that support the IP phones and speakers. The runtime is about 15 minutes, enough time to make calls and figure out what to do.
  3. We are APC. We had a few Emerson/Liebert units, but have been recently told that getting batteries for them is not going to be possible. And the batteries I have bought were almost as much as replacing the unit with an APC. Our datacenter also has a 10 year old APC Symmetra lx system that works fine and I can still get parts and batteries for. I'd only go APC at this point. They have a good track record of supporting their stuff.
  4. https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=c03361169 A lot of older tech things can't, internally, support bigger drives. Looks like you are stuck with 4TB drives
  5. I believe Finale uses it's own licensing server, and it has probably been taken down. You're best bet would to maybe be to clone the drive and use Migration assistant to move it over.
  6. We are currently looking to migrate our Zimbra system to Google Apps for Education. Anyone have experience with this? We have been testing the tool Google provides for doing this with mixed results (works on some users, crashes terribly on others). Thanks
  7. Don't lecture him on RAID. He's obviously an expert......NOT.
  8. Why do you want the CCTVs on VLAN 1 and VLAN10? And why would you want the phones on VLAN 1 and VLAN 100? Defeats the whole purpose of having VLANs and switches in the first place. So, this is how we have our network set up. VLAN 1, computers VLAN 2, Phones VLAN 3, Server to Server VLAN 4, Guest VLAN 5, Cameras VLAN 6, Apple TVs VLAN 1 is Computer traffic VLAN 2 doesn't talk to the other VLANS. There is a route in the Dell SonicWall that lets the server VLAN talk to it, but the only traffic on the VLAN is phone. VLAN 5 is like VLAN2, except the NAS we have has two ports, one is for all the cameras to come into and be recorded on. The other is a VLAN1 port on the NAS so certain people can view the cameras. No other traffic goes on VLAN 5 VLAN 3 is strictly inter-server traffic on two switches. VLAN 4 is our Guest network. It only has that traffic and goes to our low/free comcast internet connection VLAN 6 is for Apple TVs. The Ruckus wireless has a separate SSID/radio for the apple TVs to be on, and then they use a bonjour gateway on the Ruckus. This cuts down the chatter on the wireless network dramatically. Only VLAN 1 can talk to VLAN 6, and only certain ports for Apple TV stuff. The idea of VLANs is to keep the traffic segregated so you have more overall bandwidth. When you "trunk" them to another switch, you just need to make sure you tell it what traffic you want on it. For some of our switches, the camera VLAN is the only thing going to another switch as there are more cameras on that switch, and more data. So we keep the traffic to the one fiber run back to another switch.
  9. You should always have a drive available to pop in a RAID in case of drive failure. Or you could move everything to a RAID 6 configuration, where you could survive TWO drive failure. I personally don't see much of a point in doing RAID10. I'd rather do RAID5 with a hot spare or a RAID6 configuration.
  10. Why not pair the Active Directory (Windows) with Open Directory (Mac) on the server end, and then use that? Thats what we do.

    SSD V HDD

SSD put into a 2010 or 2011 MacBook Pro. Boot up time was 1:10.......now the boot up time is 10 seconds. Flat. After logging in, everything (Dropbox and other programs) load in about 2 seconds. Cost? 256gigs for $100. Well worth it.
