Hi We have a teacher that requires the laptops in his classroom for a particular lesson. The lesson involves downloading a large flash file. It took about 30 mins for all the laptops to fully download the file ready to use through the wireless network. I've advised him to use the IT suite and wired desktops for this lesson but for various reasons he won't. The WAP is in his classroom with a 1GBPS connection back to the switch. Any ideas how I could get things running faster for him? Ta

Hi all, Our frog VLE is very outdated. I'm looking at getting something more up to date. I'm aware of the main school VLE providers studywiz, frog, moodle etc but they are all a bit too overkill for what we want and pricey. All we use frog for is a place children can privately take part in discussion forums, a bit of blogging and internal email. Does anyone know of anywhere or any companies that could just provide us with these basic requirements?

Think I'll give this a go, found on another thread... Spanning Tree will not prevent all kinds of loops and that isn't its purpose in the first place; what you want is Loop Protect. You can enable it on the Procurves by connecting via the cli and executing the following commands: loop-protect all loop-protect trap loop-detected loop-protect disable-timer 60 write mem (if you want to save this config permanently) this will disable any looped ports for 60 seconds and generate an snmp trap.

Yes we have ipads and all the teachers laptops have itunes installed so that could well be having an affect, thanks

I had the network install chaps come in to check for loops and they couldn't find any which is what prompted me to go down the road of looking into any windows or DNS settings. I'll have a check for the root and any other errors, thanks

Pings between switches are usually 5 or 6ms. I got a couple that went to 77ms and 13ms, but when I tried again they were at 4/5/6ms. These are 1GB switches so guessing they should really be ,<1ms. Any ideas?

The pings seem to be the same whether DNS or IP. The councils router handles DHCP and provides clients with our local server as the primary DNS and their server as the secondary DNS. Our server is also set up to forward to their DNS. So your saying that just the primary DNS should be dished out to clients? Some of the clients appear to be going directly to the council DNS so I'm unsure how it would affect them if I turned the secondary DNS off.

Hi We seem to have some general network issues with the main symptoms being Slow internet, pages taking forever to load etc, when used by a number of pupils. Ping tests on the LAN regularly showing a time of over 100ms There doesn't seem to be an issue accessing shares or logging on unless a number of laptops are used wirelessly in one area, which is to be expected I suppose As for the slow internet the council maintain that there are peaks in bandwidth usage due to unwanted traffic from our LAN. As a result I carried out a wireshark test which showed a high percentage of the traffic was Netbios, dropbox and IPv6 traffic. I have tried disabling these settings and have modified the dropbox settings. The problems still exist. Other things I have tried inlcude with/without STP, updating NIC drivers, checking cabling etc. One area that I could do with help on is DNS as I suspect it may not be configured correctly as the wireshark logs seem to indicate that the clients are going straight to the secondary DNS, is that ok? It is set up as follows DHCP Server 'Default Gateway (Council Router)' DNS Servers 'Local DC' and 'Council proxy' Also, is there anything that I should check on the server with regards to this? It was all set up before I started with no documentation so any ideas or things I could check are much appreciated. We have 1 server, server 2008r2, and clients on win7 Cheers Steve

MicrosoftFixitPrinterSpool50984.msi seems to have done the job. I've run it on 6 machines when the fault showed, rebooted and all the printers are there. Thanks everyone for your assistance

I get the same issue using a script as well! If sharing printers from server 2008R2 to windows 7 machines would you install the server 2008r2 version of the driver or the windows 7 version? I've installed the server version, but just double checking everything. I will try the registry fix.

I still get the same issues I'm afraid. I also put one of the workstations in another group with no other policies applied and still got the same problem. So, it doesn't appear to be a group policy or inheritance issue. I can't find any network issues either. I will investigate the workstations today and see what I can find. Any other ideas?

No, it's fine. Thanks for replying The printers are all online and ready, they are on the same VLAN. I havn't tried to ping them actually. I will give that a go now, I suspect a ping will be successful.

They are all different types of users - teachers and students in various year group in different OUs. Even logging in as admin sometimes they may not appear. The printers are listed in AD, other GPOs applying fine and GPupdate GPO doesn't help the issue

Hi, I'm having major issues with printer deployment. There are a number of windows 7 machines where printer deployment only works intermittently. I have tried Different logins Postscript, PCL5 and PCL6 (plus universal) Drivers Deploying via group policy (both users and computers) Deploying via a logon script Occasionally it will work, and appears to be resolved but then someone else or the same person can log back in and the printers are not there again. It's not specific to certain machines either. One time it will work and then it won't. Windows 7, Server 2008R2, HP Laserjet Any help appreciated. Driving me nuts! Cheers

Hi, We are looking at replacing some of our older interactive smartboards with Interactive Display Screens. Could anyone recommend any or advise on which ones to avoid? I know the smart e70 and iBoards seem to be very popular, but what makes them better than cheaper alternatives such as Iiyama? Any help or advice much appreciated
