Hi All We are looking to replace our traditional paper homework planners with an iPad app in September (we are 1:1). There are a lot of the app store- does anyone have any experience of them? Thanks

Hi Folks We've coded a simple iPad app here that passes some data to our servers using php and POST. It all works fine on the swgfl proxy, at home, etc- but when connected to the regular smoothwall proxy the request still completes as the php script runs (it adds an entry to a database) but all the data that should have been in the POST has been removed/blank. I've tried it with another external POST server and have the same problem. Talked to smoothwall support and they suggested disabling the "http strict mode" in the settings but this hasn't had any effect. I know this is a bit of a wild one, but does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks Phil

Hi We've had the issue over the last 12 months or so that sims updates seem to rearrange the addresses of some of our parents! i.e. Mr Jones's address gets switched with Mr Smith's. Only a handful, but this does lead to complaints when letters home are sent to the wrong people. We don't use any external updating stuff so I'm at a loss to explain it- any ideas? Thanks Phil

Google apps for edu- freedom of information act request
philjones2000 replied to philjones2000's topic in Cloud Services
:-) Thanks for the reply Apparently this is a data protection act request... What confuses me is that I surely can't access other people's email as that would break their data protection... -
Hi We use google apps for education for email here- but we have had a Freedom of Information act request for emails concerning a particular person How do we go about doing this!? It seems like I'd have to search manually through everyone's inbox??? And where does that leave their/my data protection? Phil

Sorry for the confusion- we have smoothwall here so access the unfiltered smartcache proxy. But I've also tried it with the staffproxy.swgfl and logged in. (and unfiltered the sites as well in hope that maybe something wasn't working properly...) Thanks for your help- have contacted swgfl to see if they can do something....

Hi Am banging my head against a wall on this one- trying to upgrade 30 iPads to ios5- iTunes downloads it, extracts it and then returns the error that "it could not contact the upgrade server". I've unfiltered all the sites I could find that apple said could be blocking it: itunes.apple.com ax.itunes.apple.com ax.init.itunes.apple.com albert.apple.com gs.apple.com ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net mzstatic.com apple.com evintl-ocsp.verisign.com evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com Has anyone got it to work on a swgfl connection? Thanks as always Phil

Hi We are looking at switching to vertical tutor groups (i.e students registered and tutor led in groups with mixed years in them instead of single year groups). I know this has been done many times before, but has anyone ever done this in the middle of an academic year? For those of you that have done this, can you think of any issues that this is going to cause us here? Is it even possible?! Thanks Phil

Hi All, This one has me and our sims guru stuck. We are redesigning our reports so that they look nice. One part of this, is a column that tells parents if their child is on target, off target or over target (with off target colour-coded red, on target green etc.). We've created a formula column in sims am7 that does this but we can't for the life of us export this into the word report. The formula column doesn't seem to exist when we look to insert this in the mail merge and word doesn't do conditional formatting, so there was no way of doing it there either. How can we achieve this? Is it possible? Thanks

Hi We currently have a wonderful paper based system for cover/course requests/trips , that relies on you getting a form to about 20 people to sign before they let you go (or not). There must be a way of doing this with a web based calendar. The user needs a straight forward form- what date, how many kids etc. that then is sent to an admin to confirm. The admin screen will need to be able to easilly call up that days events and send a confirmation- that adds it to the calendar and then emails the requester (if allowed). Any ideas on a starting place? Phil

I've been looking at the various e-beam/mimio systems out there but wondered if there were any that were multi touch? Thanks

Hi We currently have a 5 cd/dvd duplicator that does a great job. There are times though when we'd like to just push the boat out a little more (and my handwriting is terrible) and print on them. At the moment we use a canon ip3000 with it's cd tray to do one at a time, but this takes a while when doing a large amount. All I can find on the web are large systems or companies that will do bulk orders. All we need is a printer that would take around 10 or 5 cd's or dvd's at a time. Or even a caddy. Any ideas? Phil

We currently pay County about £4500 for our support whereas capita came back at £6000 (plus £250 to move from the LA support). Cornwall must have got a good deal when they signed up!
