Good Morning, I am Mark, the IT Manager of BWT:KSA & BWT:CPA. One of my crew has been head hunted for a commercial role, and since its one of those rare opportunities she is off with our best wishes. I am after staff with a very clear idea on customer service, I am not after a raft of certifications which may or may not apply to this role. The site was opened in July 2012 with a two million pound investment in IT. The student/staff treat the equipment well & certainly make use of it. The site runs mixed Thin & Fat client PCs & APPLE products: We support both the secondary & primary sites which are linked: running shared IT Systems. We also in effect operate a BYOE service - but we do not offer support to any equipment that isn't Trust owned. I answer directly to the Principals of the two sites, and have a strategic lead from the IT Director who is highly respected for his knowledge & Management style. My management style is devolve both responsibility & authority to complete your tickets. You will be joining a team with myself, deputy manager & AV manager, technician & apprentice. I always have an eye to diversity & opportunity so 1) let us know if we need to arrange support for your interview, and 2) consider what your good at - and what we can tech you: I often state that I can teach tech skills - I can not teach personality & or attitude. What I can also say is that most staff that have operated as part of my team have gone on to IT Managerial role or Commercial roles paying in the £30k bracket. That said I am looking for at least three years commitment from the applicant. Additional points to consider: We supply a laptop, iPad & a term-time food allowance, this means you can breakfast & lunch at the academy instead of having to buy in food (essentially £790 a year - and its good quality food with unlimited coffee its not a perk because your on duty in the restaurant which is the deal between you & the academy) The day is 08:00 to 16:30 three days a week, one day your on a rota to stay until 17:00 to support staff/students still in the building & Friday we go at 16:00. There is a proposal in the system from myself for a position of Senior IT Tech: but it isn’t approved and we are in the middle of Trust-Wide review of roles. I would not file that as a certainty at this time. Wage levels are part of the review and the goal is to make sure we have like-for-like. I have proposed the Senior Tech role should attract Circa £23K But I stress it’s not finalised or approved. I don’t personally use the school Pension, but I believe its Managed by Brooke Weston Trust: but is basically part of the LEA offering even though we are an Academy.

It does have the pay on the job description, Its not great I am afraid: We are in the middle of a review on positions: the techs that left apprenticed with me and then stayed on one extra year to develop skills. They went on to take commercial roles in the £30-40K bracket - and very happy to see them achieve that success before even hitting their 20th Birthdays. That should give you an idea of how skilled they had become - We are a good academy and have a really good IT Directorate: Or in other words IT isn’t run by the Teacher who pulled the short straw -BUT- We have been hit just as badly as everybody else with the funding cuts, so I was only able to secure entry level pay pf £18.5K You also get £4.60 daily to spend in the restaurant (Term-Time) That’s a significant perk worth about £900 a year I also assign a reasonable laptop & an iPad, which you can buy on leaving service http://www.ketteringscienceacademy.org/Resources/Vacancies/2013-14/IT_Technician_job_description.pdf

I should also add: you need to apply promptly as I am looking to have both positions filled ASAP Its a new building with new IT systems - so you can develop skills on VDI, Citrix and other centralised systems: Emphasis is on client service, and we use a ticket system to control work flow.
