We just created a new Windows Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010. While configuring Exchange 2010 we cannot get it to accept the path to the old Exchange 2010 databases we have stored on a second HD in the same computer. DB is approx. 1TB in size so it will not fit on the servers main drive. We are separating from out parent university and they gave me a complete dump of our schools database from the old exchange server just before it was shutdown and server has been salvaged as it was very old hardware. When we tell Exchange where the database is (F:\PCTC\Pierpont_MB_DB4\Pierpont_MB_DB4.ebb) it returns an error that the database already exists. We are only trying to setup this server as a way to recall old emails if needed by users in the future as we switched to Google Apps. for Education approx. 12 months ago for ALL email services but some of our users refuse to migrate their emails as we have been asking them to do for the last 12 months. If we cannot get this database mounted in this Exchange server, is there another way we can take the database and access the data on it?

I am try to establish a two way forest trust between two different servers. However whe I use either the Active Directory Domains and Trusts GUI or NETDOM TRUST command I get the same error. "This operation cannot be performed on the current domain" I have been unable to find any resolution to this that applies to my servers anywhere.

I work for a small community college (pierpont.edu) and we are separating from our parent university (fairmontstate.edu) and I have been tasked with developing the plan to separation. Currently our pierpont.edu data is store in the fairmontstate.edu Active Directory system as sub-ou's of the fairmontstate forest ( such as ou=employees,ou=Pierpont,dc=fairmontstate,dc=edu) What would be the best way to migrate our employees & students AD information over to our pierpont.edu AD server? Their server is a Windows 2008R2 based system, my pierpont.edu system is Windows 2012R2 based but I could build a Windows 2008R2 AD server instead to make this transfer easier. I have been testing CSVDE and have a good functioning export and import script EXCEPT for the passwords. The other kink in this project is that the 2 systems are on different networks at different location. Had been looking at setting up a Forest Trust between the two systems to allow a user on either system login on a computer at either location easily. My other problem is how to maintain password synchronization between the 2 seperate AD systems. Any suggestions?

My college is seperating from our parent University and I am attempting to setup the AD server for the following system. Forest A is the parent university running Windows Server 2008R2 Forest B is our system running Windows Server 2012R2 What we want to accomplish is to setup a Forest Trust whereas any student from either school can log on to any computer under either forest. With this Forest Trust, after we migrate user objects from Forest A to Forest B, will this maintain the sync of the users passwords between the two forests? The reason for this is that on Forest B we use Google Apps. for Education, Forest A does not. Forest A will not cooperate in running the Google Apps. Directory Sync or Password Sync.

Everything resolves correctly. Also tried to join a Windows7 desktop to the domain and got the same error message. . .

DNS resolution works on all machines. I had already placed the 2008 servers into the DNS record before I tried to join them to the domain, is that my problem?

That's what I have been trying to do but I keep getting the network path not found error??? 2012 server 192.168.1.3 2008 servers 192.168.1.5/6/7

Forest & Domain function levels are both Windows Server 2012

I have a Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter AD controller along with 3 Windows Server 2008R2 servers. Problems is whenever I try to joining the 208 servers to the 2012 domain i get the following error of network path not found. I am at a loss to figure this problem out as all servers can see each other as 2 of the the 2008 servers being used as storage server with their drive space mapped back to the 2012 server. All servers are on the same network, I can ping all from all, I have Administrator access on all servers. I am listed in the Domain Admin group.

I am in the position of facilitating the separation of two institutions and need to develop the new AD server for the new institution. Currently our parent institution maintains & controls our AD system and is not very cooperative in separating our data. We have a R&D network setup outside of the main campus network where we have a WS2012 Datacenter installation functioning as the AD server, what I am trying to devise is a way to sync my institutions data from the parent institutions AD server(s) so as to populate our AD server. The parent institution does not want to setup replication as we do not need/want the parent institutions AD data, just our own. The other part of this idea/problem is sync'ing the passwords in the parent institutions AD system for my AD users into my new AD system. We use Google Apps. for Education for students & employees and would like to take over our own Google2AD sync'ing as the parent institution is very hard to coordinate with for time on their AD system as they won't even give us access to it at a user level higher that a regular user. Any ideas???
