  1. if money is tight i'd still look at the Powershell option. its a skill most admins are going to forced to learn at sometime. It was time consuming for us to set up but it also means if we change anything we can adjust the script. Actually felt empowered once I'd done it.
  2. We had the same issue with GADS and Groups - Google basically said it was by design and to make the changes in the Google Admin console. Not accepting this as an answer they came back with making the teacher a "managed by" user in the AD. GADS then makes these user as owners in the Google Groups. They then can added users/groups to Google Classrooms. (i suspect this what your trying to do) To automate this we use a Powershell script to look at CMIS and then edit the groups we have set up.
  3. Hi Nick, We have very similar setup to you and are having the same issues. We have Trapeze managed Wifi using b/g radios (130 AP's on site) one ap at least in each classroom. 500 active users on average. Smoothwall is DHCP and Radius server. What we are seeing is at the start of lessons 60% of Chromebook get connected to the Radius Wifi the rest fail. After a good 5-10 minutes the remaining 40% connect. Even if they get on there seems to be an issue with traffic being extremely slow until something balances out. Either Smoothwall or the APs. Once the balancing seems to finish all is fine. The Wifi company are blaming the AP's for being slow/old with b/g radios not having enough bandwidth for clients when they start up and want us to purchase n/ac setup. We also had to set accounting and authentication settings to be enabled for the SSID ourselves as they did not set this up. Smoothwall have been helping us. DHCP was having an issue which they have applied a hotfix. This fixes is in the next round of schedules updates for the appliance. Doing a speed test in classrooms we get as low as 4Mps at the time but normally regardless of which wifi SSID or setup bandwidth is only about 15Mps. The best I've seen is 28Mps when noone is on site. I'm totally lost myself as to what we can do get Radius wo work 100% of the time. Or even where the problem lies. My only thought it the radio speeds but I'm loathed to concede on this.
  4. Just a quick answer to this - We run CMIS here and using a few PowerShell scripts can scheduled task our groups and class groups are automated. Its not graceful but it works. The steps we follow. - We use PS clear out existing members of Class Groups (I just couldnt find a cmdlet to append group membership) - Then PS to hit the CMIS DB and using a query get all the Class Group members - Add the members to the groups - Any empty class groups are then deleted. - Any new class groups are mail-enabled and set to security - universal - GADS then uploads a sync Only time we have an issue is the start of the year when we need to up the change limit in GADS as the bulk changes are over the 5% protection setting.
  5. Not sure if this is the right place but here I go. Hi all, I've recently setup Google Apps for education as a test for our head of ICT. I have set the google AD sync which grabs user accounts and creates usernames when we create them in the AD So far so good. I have also setup single sign on with google apps using singlesamlphp which athenticates users both inside and outside to use google apps as long as they have a valid AD username and password, again all working fine. I know have 2 'problems' according to the head of ICT. Problem 1 He wants anyone inside of school who is already logged in to click a link and go straigh to thier google app site,"as this is what he thought SSO was" Problem 2 We currently use Frog as our VLE (they have to log into this even inside of school with and AD user and pass) and the head of ICT would like google apps to launch from within Frog by a single click either inside or outside of school. Even though I think this is Frog issue rather than me. Is anyone using Google Apps? and if so do you have seemless login within school ? All help greatly received.
