About Simmy

  1. Just been on the bursar's machine which is Win 7 and set up as peer to peer. Hoping I can allow the admin to connect to the curric through the curric trust. If not I'm thinking of adding a wireless network card into the admin machine and connecting to the curric through that. They will rarely use it anyway. Cheers for all the advice
  2. Yes LEA set up. Might give them a call tomorrow as we have support on the admin. Usually take a week to get back to me though
  3. No I can only ping the cisco switch that they both go to
  4. Hi all, I have a school that has 2 seperate machines for admin and curriculum domains. Curric is server 2003 r2 and admin is server 2008. I am trying to map the curriculum drives onto an admin machines but the admin machines won't talk to the curriculum server... Both admin and curriculum networks connect into the main cisco switch so I was wondering if there is any way of getting it to map? I am hoping to merge the admin and curric domains onto 1 machine so I can set trusts up for this in future as the 2003 server is antique!!! Thanks in advance. Si
  5. I do mate yes which is great but others have already deployed office 365 including RM Education. The filtering has been a long time coming as the current system is annoying! Regarding vle, I've worked in 3 schools now and only 1 teacher out of the 3 schools uses Moodle. I have given training and insets on it but they have told me it is too time consuming and complicated.
  6. Thanks mate i'll look into this
  7. To be honest we only moving away from OCL because of the pricing which IMO is extortionate. I rarely need support from them but when I have, it has been pretty good just slow. Fingers crossed we get a good speed from RM. I have been told we will get FTTC next year and RM will upgrade to this when available free of charge. ATM we are paying almost £8k a year for a broadband connection:eek:
  8. Hi all, Has anyone hosted Moodle or used anyone who provide the hosting for Moodle at a reasonable cost? I have contacted WebAnywhere for hosting as I know a few people on here use them for website hosting... Cheers Si
  9. We have just signed up with RM Education who provide support for all we require apart from hosting our Moodle site. We are staying with OCL for our SIMS for the time being though but RM Education do provide an alternative.
  10. This has now been resolved. I bought a new 8 port switch (Netgear gigabit) and it is all working fine now
  11. Tried 2 switches and tried bypassing the 8 port switch so I go straight to the Cisco switch and same error so this problem cant be caused the 8 port switch. Contacted oneconnect last week about this cisco switch and awaiting a reply.
  12. No. There is an 8 point switch in between the cisco switch and the machines so I changed this and tried logging in and got the error. Rebooted and it let me log in. 10 mins later user logged out and tried logging in again and wouldn't let them back in. Tried a few different times since and still not allowing log in. Very strange
  13. It does log in occassionally
  14. As I have been teaching all week the school called a network engineer out as OneConnect thought the problem was network related. He came out today and I have just spoken to him and he said he thinks it is a SIMS problem or a problem with the switch. He said the Cisco switch is flashing orange occasionally which is a common fault. He said as the switch is owned by OneConnect we should contact them about this which I will do when I get time (I am currently in the middle of an ICT after school club). I have however moved the computer from the main office that has never had a problem logging in to sims and tried this in the other office and still the same problem. Tried logging in as different users and all users work in the main office but not in the Deputy heads so it must be network related. Appologies to OneConnect by the way for my earlier comments. I was frustrated :-O I tried pinging the switch and reply was 1ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms, 2ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms, and I got 1 14ms. Not sure if this would cause a problem? Thanks for all the comments by the way. I am confident I can get this resolved. This cisco switch is now concerning me though. Anyone had this problem? Looks like it is working fine and then it slowly flashes green then orange for about 10 seconds and then looks fine again? Network seems to be working fine
