One of my servers refuses to boot from CD, (or network) no matter what boot settings I put in BIOS. It just tries to boot from the RAIDed HDDs. I need to use the W2003 repair console to get Server 2003 back up, as I'm getting the message "Load DLLs needed for kernel". So I'm thinking, can I put the adaptec RAID PCI card along with its disks in another PC? If the RAID config is stored on the card's memory, it's independent of the motherboard, right? Or not?! Or is there a simpler way?

So, you're recommending starting by installing SQL2008, get the latest SIMS server ISO from LEA, run updates (quite a lot of those perhaps!) detach and attach database, modify connect.ini etc and test from there. Then if all is working run the SQL2012 migration tool. Is that right? Thanks again!

I started by trying the 2012 Migration utility, which installed SQL2012. Then I thought, wait, there's no SIMS installed so it can't work. But I was told by an engineer that the Migration Utility would set it up and I didn't need to run SIMSINST. But it didn't work, so that's when I tried to run SIMSINST anyway. Then I uninstalled the lot and started from scratch, but that didn't work either!! Aaaagghh (Somewhere in the middle I succeeded in attaching a SIMS database using dbattach, so SQL was actually working, but without any SIMS infrastructure...

I'm sorry to ask this, but I'm tearing my hair out... Exactly how do you install SIMS on a server? What do you start with? SIMSINST choosing server options? When I run this it tells me that: MS SQL 2000 SP3 Desktop Engine Installation Package MISSING! SIMS Infrastructure: Package MISSING! SIMS SQL Applications: MISSING! Ok, so I try to run, SIMS Infrastructure. It installs .NET 3.5 and then disappears... without so much as a goodbye Then I try SIMS SQL App setup, and go back to square 1. Same messages from SIMSINST. I sure as hell am not going to run MS SQL 2000 SP3 Desktop Engine!!! I'm going round in circles and going My LEA sent me a setups folder in Sept, supposedly with the latest files. However SIMSINST is dated 2007. Is this correct? I'm thinking this is the problem. Searching this forum someone suggested running SIMSServerApplicationSetup - but I can't find it anywhere... If I can't figure it out soon, it's this: Can anyone save me from my fate??? (btw I'm running server 2012 on a Hyper-V VM)

Yes, I'd seen both those pages myself, but they didn't really shed any light of it. But as all my Event Manager logs start with 0x0, so maybe they're all successful! Strangely enough, the number of PCs that are licensed seems to be creeping up very slowly - maybe 1 a day?! It must admit, it's as clear as mud!! Thanks SleepyDude

Thanks SleepyDude. Actually there event log doesn't show any errors - it's just that why doesn't it show all my clients as licensed instead of on Notification, which, if I understand correctly means that the grace period has ended and they still haven't been activated. Or do I just ignore it?!

Can anyone help me with this one? I thought I had everything set up correctly, incl. firewall ports open as per instructions. However, as you can see from the jpg, most of my clients seem to be stuck on Notification. I haven't noticed any PCs with the "Activate Windows" watermark anymore, so not sure what's going on...! All servers (incl. 4 Hyper-Vs) are licensed, which means some workstations must have been as well, but how do I find out which ones and why or why not?! (Server 2012 / Windows 8) Thanks.

Hi All, I've set up a Hyper-V W2012 server to deploy images, configuring it to use dynamic memory. When I deploy images, (using MDT2012) they start off ok, but slow down to a snail's pace (eg. the whole process takes 4 hrs+), and the server's memory requirement goes up and up, currently demanding 13,757MB to deploy 5 images! OK, they are quite 'fat' images (the wim is 6GB) but even so... Any ideas? Thanks.
