Hi everyone.
My first post and hope you can help. I’ve come in this morning to the song of ‘broken’. The one we all know well, I’m sure.
We have a Dell Poweredge1800 child domain and today one of the hard drives has failed.
I haven’t dealt with this issue before and don’t want to make any wrong clicks and erase the lot!! The RAID is setup on a PERC 4 S/C Controller and I’m using the Dell Open Manage Array Manager (Dell support ran out last year!!). This tells me that Disk array 0:1 has failed and it has 128MB of unallocated space?? It shows this failure in 2 areas, an Array Group which contains a Virtual area showing both disks and a backplane area showing both disks.
Basically I don’t know what options are open to me. Is it possible that the disk can be recovered and if so how do I go about this. If it is better to just replace the disk can I do that while the system is still running (How can I tell if hot swap is available), will the disk initiate itself and what precaution should I take.
Any help would be really appreciated. Going to stick my face in Google now!! Cheers
