Yes it was the slow login time that prompted the user to come to me. I have also just found a bunch of ripped music from someones cd collection on the staff network drive! Just had a brief chat with a teacher about it, just said "well I need it", turned his back and walked away! Nice.

So when having a bit of a look at some of the staff provided laptops, 70% seem to have installed their own itunes accounts with their own music. We have always been fairly relaxed until now on restricting laptops through group policy. However, now I getting teachers coming to me saying they ‘need’ a new laptop as theirs is slow. Then I find their itunes folder on the desktop at 108gb. I now need to apply more formal guidelines and ensure they are implemented. Because they have obviously been able to do what they like up till now, I’m going to get some grief when I start uninstalling stuff. Anyone got any links to legal info or policies that I can quote about having private accounts/files etc on a school laptop? Cheers Rich

Currently a mixture between interwrite and smart notebook. The majority are just using the screens as a projection only, as the pens have stopped working.

So have finally been given some money to replace our 10 year old RM classboards. I need to put together our requirements. Do I go smartboards 880 with short throw or something like a 65" ctouch ? Has anyone run into any issues with moving to a smaller screen from a 77" smart board? We have an 880 smart board in our hall so the teachers are familiar, but have never seen an LCD alternative. A demo unit for a couple of weeks would be good I suppose?

Yes it is a huge workload. I have my AAT,s from a previous role so that helped. Also have Prince 2 which they seemed more interested in. Line managing the caretaker should be fun!

Obviously salary plays a part, at my place SBM is two grades higher.

Anyone else ever considered this? I'm in the process of going from ICT Manager to School Business Manager. Lots to learn still but jumping into the deep end. I do have finance experience from previous roles 10 or so years ago. Can't help but feel is it the right thing to do....

After an initial issue with multiple policies via their web filtering product - surfprotect, we are now very happy with their product. I have not yet had any issues with the line going down and its been up for a year now.

Im venturing out of ICT for a couple of days a week to project manage a new initiative at my school. Does anybody have a sample Project plan they are prepared to share? Thought it might save some time if I could adapt someone elses Thanks

The Broadband / reliability is great, no issues with that. The issues seem to be with the configuration of Surf Protect. I would like to point out that we deal with a third party that deal with EXA, so the issues Im having may be with the thrid party and the speed that they respond, rather than EXA themselves. Mark, I will give them till the end of the week to resolve this issue (it has been going on for months), and then I will contact you for a chat, if no success. I feel a bit bad for naming your company now as I did not intend to when starting this post.

Just realised that the 6k figure I quoted is way out. It appears I cant use decimal points!!! I still think 60000 in a month is high for a school our size.

Nope its all legit, The room full of paper is now almost empty, counters were on zero plus engineer install numbers. Its a lease machine, so the toner is just ordered in as and when. At 60000, thats 500 per reem, so 120 reems. 5 Reems to a box , so thats 24 boxes used in a month. thats about 1 box a day?

We use papercut and can see who is printing what, however, the staff are saying they only print what they need! The SLT did not want to impose restrictions at this point. The majority of printing is from the staff. Hence, I was interested in what others have as a budget. Personally I would have thought 10k a year for a primary was more than enough!

Hey Im trying to get to grips with what is an acceptable amount of prints/copies for a 380 pupil primary school. Since a new MFD was installed in the first week of September, we have 60,000 prints/copies. Last year our annual budget was 10k (and kept to). This year we are up to 6K in a month. Would appreciate anyones input with a similar size school? Cheers

Have been looking at Evernote and Skitch. The Issue is we need to put all the notes into a format for the parents to be able to view. Like a learning log. Currently they take a photo on the class camera, upload the photos, print them out, cut them out, glue them in a book and write comments..! The parents can then view these books when they come into class.

Hey all, We are looking to get support staff to use our ipads and android tablets to photos of childrens work and add notes. Ideally, We would then be able to save the photo along with the note into google drive. After a quick look, a few of the apps just save the photo and not the note. Anyone do anything like this? Cheers.
