Also their computers are excellent, with next day on site warranty and they offer managed services so a decent all round company. NB I do not work for Stone Computers, not receive any kickbacks...but if Stone are watching this post, I'll happily receive free gifts!

3. We've managed to install it onto CC4 finally - took a while, but the issue was compounded by Smoothwall and it's automatic license checker, once resolved it's working a treat.
4. I'm hoping so crumpet. I thought I'd try and see if anyone would want some first before trying Ebay...there has to be someone more gullible than us when we first bought them!
5. Hi all We have a limited Edition RM One EcoQuiet (Collectors Edition) chassis which contains no working parts (Very much like the original unit) - I'm willing to accept bids on this unique piece of history. Prices starting at £1. Happy Bidding! Please note that we accept no liability for any warranty that may or may not be on this chassis!
6. You can go to Smoothwall directly - Smoothwall - Internet Security and Content Filtering Solutions
7. Hi there Apologies if this has been answered previously! We're about to undertake a project to install Meraki wireless into our school and enable a Bring Your Own Device Policy and the introduction of Android tablets and iPads. We still want to filter our content via Smoothwall. However, when testing some of our devices we find that we are having strange issues with images not displaying in Google Play Store and or them not being accessible. Is this a setting inside Smoothwall (Which I'm sure it is) that anyone is aware of and more importantly how this could be worked around? Any help would be appreciated! Gareth
8. Interesting article actually - I have never heard of Misco and wonder how they would compare with the likes of Stone or Dell?
9. You are certainly very lucky. Unfortunately I have found that RM only promote their own products and will try to shoe horn one to fit your requirements rather than identify one that would be most appropriate. I don't think they understand Microsoft licensing fully or correctly and have noted that their fit for our school has resulted in us overpaying for years and on agreements that are not suitable. I would strongly suggest that although it is working for you, a quick half hour phone call to some of the major software companies would result in your views changing dramatically. As for their support, they are quick at getting back to you, but their solutions do not work - or your support contract doesn't quite cover it. I've found more joy using this forum and google than RM support. However, each to their own I suspect :-)
10. Definitely more simple - however one that the Teachers have decided should be an IT task - and I for one will not be sending any of my Technicians to lock \ unlock a door! ;-)
11. Hi I was wondering if anyone has come across this scenario before - and if so how they've overcome it? I'd like to restrict access to a whole computer room for any student login during Lunch time. Is this possible, and if so - how would you go about this? This of course is using the lovely RM CC4... Many thanks
12. Very good point synaeasthesia. I agree that their services could be the way for them to go, but I do feel for organisations that have no real world experience within their IT department. I have found RM a useful took and they can certainly provide a service - however it is not based around what would be best for the customer but more a "this solution is what we sell, therefore we will shoe horn it to fit your needs". That kind of approach is outdated and I would say is one of the biggest reasons why I think that they will be disappearing quickly from the market as more and more schools appoint IT Managers from outside of education
13. I agree completely -having just taken over at my establishment in April this year the decision to upgrade to CC4 had already been taken and signed. In my mind this was a serious waste of money, but we will not be in a position to change until next summer now. The current course of action is looking at putting proper infrastructure in place - overriding the current setup of an admin and teaching domain, placing all shares on one area of our SAN as opposed to space being allocated per server (no idea why it was done this way - an excuse to sell more servers than needed?) The difficulty here is changing the perceptions of the existing support staff and showing them there is life after RM
14. Morning all Just thought I'd get a few thoughts on the above company. I know that they will stop selling desktop hardware shortly and we have just found out our account manager has "left" (Mutual consent or pushed?). I for one am very wary over which way the company is headed and am now actively considering the move to a plain Windows network - which again will present it's own challenges in untangling the "load balancing" mess that RM have created...
15. I've used PRM before - they're fairly quick and have a minimum requirement of kit before they collect
16. Hi All First of all, please accept my apologies if I am posting in the wrong thread. When trying to run AIM High on certain workstations we receive the following error message: EAccess Violation Access Violation at address 77182D24 in module ntdll.dll Write of address 46C7187E We are currently running CC4 and Win7 32bit clients. This error happens on a workstation basis and not login - so no difference if logged in as systemadmin or a normal user. I wondered if anyone else has encountered this issue, and more importantly what they have done to fix this?
17. Has anyone here tried Adobe Cloud licensing? I'm interested in exploring this option as it does seem to be relatively cheap in terms of what you can access for the money paid. That said however, it does pose an interesting question - we made a significant investment in Adobe CS6 last year and if we moved to the cloud this would render the investment almost worthless - is there anyway to get a "cashback?" type option or reduction in overall spend if we surrendered this?
18. As for installing it on CC3 can you let me know how you managed to package this and if you experienced any errors on doing so?
19. We've been unable to deploy CS6 on our CC3 network and since we didn't purchase this from RM there is no support. They have offered an installation package at (you guessed it) a price. Following some complaints from us, they finally gave us this for free. We then tried to install the package but it will just not deploy. We have now had RM dialling in for a week and they are still no closer to resolving this. My concern is that Matt Greaves says they are still experiencing issues deploying on CC4. Has anyone tried a dual boot and installed this on a plain MS Windows machine without the RM layer?
20. I've run it manually to test before trying the logon and this worked fine. The net use was added in case it hadn't mapped it's home drive first. You're right though about the trailing \ - a hang up from copy and paste! Rm have now come back with a VB script to use, but I'm sure that is just overkill. There must be someway that RM maps user drives and if I could find this part I would be able to add the file copy in?
21. Thanks It's a very simple batch file to copy templates into the standard template folder: net use n: \\svr-004\%UserName%$ xcopy \\svr-001\Logon\templates "N:\My Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\" /e/s/y
22. Hi Apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum to post in, but I was wondering if anyone can provide me with a little assistance? I would like to copy a file into every users templates folder when they login. This will allow a customer form to be used from within Outlook. Generally I would have done this by adding the login script to a users profile on AD - however I've tried this and it just does not seem to run. I'm sure it's being blocked by RM somewhere along the line. Any help would be gratefully received. Oh and for the record, I did try and run this past RM, but received their usual helpful type response:

I am afraid this is not possible through RM management console. You can share the file to a common shared drive and ask the users to copy to the respective directory. Thank You

23. Thanks - pretty much my understanding. I understand from their way of thinking that this makes the process quicker and easier - however most large organisations will take your standard image and place this onto a workstation making installation quick and painless. It is more about integrating this into the actual CC4 network and having the RM layer added onto it. Would it be possible to have this on a Ghost type image?
24. Hi I'm rather new to education and have come from a background supporting Public Sector (Including Health and Fire Service) and Private industry (insurance, engineering, etc). I have recently taken over supporting a private school who are heavily involved with RM and are planning a major upgrade to CC4 this summer. I have concerns over their approach to upgrades \ support and general customer service and I wondered if anyone has had any similar issues? What I would like to do is to prepare for a gradual removal from RM and look to move to a standard Microsoft network using AD \ SCOM etc to do the same tasks as RM. One of the issues that has been raised is the packaging and integration of new workstations onto the network. Understandably I have very little knowledge of RM and how this works, but surely it must be possible to use a tool such as Ghost to image workstations for integration into the network? If so, has anyone had success in doing this and purchasing an off the shelf PC for integration? How have you approached this? The support staff here are reticent to do this and would prefer a packaged machine coming from RM (And until I understand this costs, a brief look on their website points to approximately £200 extra for this service). Also, on the peaceful removal of RM, has anyone had any issues \ feedback or general comments about how this can be managed? Many thanks all G
