Is anyone on these forums US born and moved after they started their career?

good links, I will most definitely check them out when I get some time this weekend! I hear you really don't get a long term visa without a rock solid job, that's really the main reason I want to find something before I go rather than after. If I'm wrong I'd love to hear it though .

California is wonderful for the most part! it's not all baywatch here, but I did go scuba diving this weekend in clear blue water and saw some lobsters, eels, etc so I guess it is like the movies =). I'm unsure if I would be receiving healthcare for free and paying those taxes as I'm technically not a citizen, but it could very well be. Really I don't plan on building my fortune or anything, just living cheap, traveling a lot, and seeing the world. I'm not really sure if the UK is right for me, I'm just looking into living in Europe. As I have frequented these forums for the past six months or so (found it by random accident) I figured this would be a good group to ask. I feel compelled to say I'm coming back because I love the US, but when I think about it.... it's kind of a screwy thing to say/feel when you haven't gone many other places. It always strikes me that going to different countries in Europe is a drive away (or well, I guess you guys actually have public transport worth taking) much like going to different states in the USA.

I'll have to check into what I need for a long term work visa (as to if short term contracts would be fine or not). I'm looking for something relatively secure, I'm a hard worker and I know my stuff, so if it's a matter of feeling me out with hiring on based on performance, that would be fine with me. Good info about the GPA thing. I had a 3.0 or some such, though for actual chosen field classes it was around a 3.8 or some such. I am from California, more specifically Long Beach. It's about an hour from L.A. (most people's California reference point). do you guys know where to begin to look for jobs of this nature (shipped from the U.S.) is this desirable, do people look at people like me as a plus? Are there certain companies who work more with this situation? Forgot to mention, but I really don't care if I work in education.

Hey all, I am looking to move to Europe for a period of two to three years. Really I'd love to travel on weekends and see the world. I would like to set up a job before I go. I'm wondering how to go about this and how possible this is in the first place. I know the "Europe" thing is vague, but really at this stage there isn't much preference on where, preference will really depend on opportunity. More about me below because I figure this will effect my marketability and you might need to know it before having a realistic response. I'm looking to move in about a year from now so it's not an urgent thing, just sort of feeling it out. I have about three years experience (five if you count a part time helpdesk that had only about 50% to do with computers). I currently work in the United States in IT at a school district. I manage everything technical (VMware, File/Print (DFSR), backups(Symantec), active directory (multi-site, multi-dc), group policy, DHCP, DNS, write scripts for us, monitoring and alerting, and security auditing. Essentially the only things I don't do are exchange (looking to learn in the coming months), Cisco (though I am well versed in a lot of it), and the management side. I am currently A+, and an MCP (Server 2k3, Active Directory) working quickly towards a MCSE: Security within the coming 12 months. I have a bachelors degree in business with emphasis in computer information systems.

as it is right now, students can run things from pendrives. I've walked into that setup. it is a side question, but how do you personally prevent people from running things from pendrive/CD?

I don't know what you mean by FF. Filtering is done at the county level and is hands off for my group. Proxy is all done via Cisco. The problem with a firefox script is that it's not just firefox I want to stop, and the fact that you could potentially run it from a flash drive.

The problem I see with that is that either you block them by name/where-installed which leaves open name changes and running off flash, or you block them by hash, in which case you better have a hash for every version of every browser. I was hoping to have more of a universal no Internet methodology. I do appreciate the response (/s) though, thank you

As I understand it, the problem is that this is a setting for internet explorer, so it does not block say firefox or opera from getting to the Internet.

Im sure this has been asked for, so a link would be just fine and very helpful. This site isn't the easiest to search for things in. Does anyone know a good way to block the Internet? So far I've set the IE homepage to something Internet saying they don't have Internet and setting their proxy server to their local machine through a program called desktop authority. Hey guys, I have inherited the problem of a large volume of dead hard drives. Some accessible and some not. I do not want to toss these intact. Know of any good ways to easily break the ability to get into these? I was thinking of making a couple holes with a power drill, but If there's anything easier I'm all ears.

Thanks for the tips, I can now disable the ctrl + arrow key with a regedit, or by preventing the program that runs the hotkey acceptors completely. Problem is that I can right click on the desktop, hit graphics options, and rotation, I can still get the same effect with no hotkeys, does anyone have a fix for that bit?

I have students holding ctrl + alt and hitting directional keys to flip their screens. Really annoying. I know this can be fixed sometimes using a previous driver, but I have about a dozen schools all with labs and would like a more universal hands off fix. Any ideas?

My method for blocking IE is directing users based on group to themselves as a proxy server (in IE settings). I am at a loss for how to block firefox in the same way (result not method). Any ideas?
