  1. At Smoothwall we're doing a lot of work to get our customers ready for GDPR. We are working closely with our lawyers to determine what needs to be done in the areas of filtering and monitoring. On the issue of consent our understanding is that if you have decided that one of the conditions in Article 6(1) or Article 9(2), other than those which are consent-based, apply to your processing of personal data then you will not need to obtain consent. You may decide that the appropriate conditions for your processing of filtering are one or more of: · Article 6(1)© – compliance with a legal obligation which you are subject to · Article 6(1)(e) – performance of a task in the public interest Retention is not an issue as long as you make a declaration on what retention period you are working to. The right to erasure or the right to be forgotten, as it is also known, is not an absolute right. As a data controller, you will need to consider each request on an individual basis to determine what, if any, personal data relating to the individual making the request, needs to be deleted.
  2. This is all great advice - excellent article. Any Smoothwall customer planning to disable SMB1 (and we recommend this) should ensure they update their system to our Inverness release first to ensure they continue to authenticate users. If you do not update to Inverness your system will continue to filter effectively, but you might not be able to authenticate users since we would be unable to communicate with the domain controller. Regards Phil
  3. The conventions of this forum is that suppliers like Smoothwall should not use them to make sales messages. We respect that and the open discussion of weaknesses (and strengths) of our solution. However, as requested by fiza, I hope you will allow me to respond to some of the posts in this thread from my position as being responsible for the products and technology we deliver to our customers. We are aware that some aspects of creating custom reports are difficult to use and are planning to address this during 2017. Safeguarding was our first step into creating more usable reports and this seems to have been well received. We are aware that there are still refinements needed in Safeguarding and the Inverness and Kenilworth releases achieve a lot in this regard. We are also acutely aware of the slow rollout of the Hearst and Inverness releases. We made some major infrastructure changes in these releases and are being very careful with how rapidly we deploy them. Significant changes have been made to the authentication and the firewall modules - two critical parts of the system. We apologise for the slow rollout but hope you appreciate the rationale for our tardiness. I am sure many of you have joined the Smoothwall Community - this is a forum used for customers to directly speak to my product team and to get early visibility of some of the features we are planning. So, apologies again if I have over-stepped the mark in getting involved in this discussion, but we are listening and value all these opinions. I am more than keen to respond to individual issues - please PM me. Best regards Phil
  4. Hi All I'm pleased to announce that this is a new Smoothwall product and not a re-badged e-Safe solution. We will be in beta for this product over the next couple of months. If you are interested please send me a PM and I can put you in touch with my product manager (Tim Dalton) who can help you understand what it will deliver. This is an exciting new development for us - we're keen to hear your feedback. Regards Phil
  5. Hi all Smoothwall is expanding the categorisation team in Leeds. The role is primarily concerned with maintaining and improving the categorisation rules which power Smoothwall’s dynamic web content filtering technology. This is an important technical and diverse role that requires a wide range of technical skills and specialist knowledge of internet technologies. It's not just looking at web sites and categorising them. The team spend a lot of time building software tools to automate the process, they constantly refine our content modification rules and are currently actively engaged in the Safeguarding initiatives and future collaborative categorisation systems. If you're interested please PM me for a Job Description and more details. All the best Phil
  6. Thanks for the question. We have just released the Chromebook Extension (and supporting services on the proxy) and, as SwedishChef mentioned, we have established a SWAT team to understand exactly how customers are planning to use their Chromebooks and provide assistance in configuration and operation. Our Chromebook Extension is completely single sign-on. User doesn't even need to hit the G+ sign-in button (in fact you might want to check this situation as well since we've seen Google moving away from G+ as a login mechanism even in the last week - G+ based solutions might no longer work). We integrate with AD via GADS, using the same credentials for Chromebook and non-Chromebook. We also support local and remote operation for users taking CBs home. I'd be happy to discuss in more detail with you - feel free to contact me. Cheers Phil
  7. At Smoothwall we're currently in the last phases of a development which should solve exactly this problem for you. We're hoping to go into beta testing within three weeks. Happy to discuss this in more detail with you if you'd like to know more and possibly help us during the beta testing programme.
