In these days of the demise of MacOS Server - and the comparative complexity of using a Golden Triangle of Windows Server for Home folders + third party MDM - Is it still a useful idea to have children use a network account - OR is it more a reflection of the real workplace to log in to a shared (managed) local account and then to log in to a file server for documents? I certainly think the latter would be quicker, and massively reduce network traffic?

Would it be easier to archive all current Home Folders and create a new one for each user on the AD, using WorkGroup Manager?

but isn't it what most people do? Apple have stopped producing real servers so everyone's using Windows server?

I have a MacPro server running 10.6.8 with about 200 childrens home folders. I am planning on moving all home folders to a new Cisco AD server. Basically I want all clients (Leopard to Yosemite) to authenticate to the AD, and load up the User's home folder etc, PLUS I wish to control each child's profile with Profile Manager on a new Mac Mini running Yosemite and Apple Server. Is this possible - and how easy? Can anyone talk me through the client and Apple Server setup?

I have a new lightspeed rocket and all has been good in the setup with 5 or 6 VLANs on one campus. However I can't get the User Agent to work - it installs OK, it seems to bind to LDAP OD OK - but you still get the web auth page at the first www request. What may I be doing wrong?

Has anyone found an easy way of preventing children from circumventing the preference restrictions on networked accounts? I have turned off "desktop and screensaver" in the preferences of both individuals and their groups- but they right-click on their desktops and change them that way. Some of them are rather distracting!
