With the new domain plan taking shape I was asked by my manager today if i know what the difference between a 1-254 scope with everything over 100 EXCLUDED Then To Creating a scope from 1-100 and leaving the rest out of scope (and therefore static) I put it down to it being documented (showing in DHCP) if it is excluded. And its just ..... "Unknown" if its not in the exclusion.. Can anyone tell me if they know any different to what is above. is there any advantage to excisions?

This is the error im currently having, i stripped out all the caparison code, and just got it to output into a MSGBOX but i keep getting this error. and as usual, microsoft help is no help! screenshot should(first time using uploaded) attatched..

in the end i realised im not recovering his work. im recovering his convinience! it was only quotes, and these quotes was e-mailed out to people(so still reside in his exchange mailbox>sent items/archive) my documents arn't automaticly mapped by default(via GPO) so when setting up a user. we are ment to redirect the my Doc folder manualy... this wasn't done! new domain comming in soon. what means a rebuild in GPO's!(forum topic to follow!)

right. couple of views but no replys. after reading back, i realise its a bit short of infomation.. what i have is 1 input box, and 2 list boxes.. i know how i want it to work, and how i think it will work.. but i don't know the problems it may cause and the code todo it.. -Enter the artist into the imput box -As your typing it querys the database(so if your searching for abba, and you only enter ab it querys "WHERE textbox1.text = ARTISTNAME) and textbox 1 contains "AB". so it only displays stuff that starts with AB... -it displays the results in LISTBOX1 -the user selects the artist he wants -it querys the database(diffrent table this time) and pulls up all the tracks that = the artistsID number -it displays all the tracks in LISTBOX2 done simple huh??? hehe:P:D

Im trying to work out how to query access and get it to output into a listbox.. the application im trying to build is a track player, where as you type in the artist it auto querys and narrows down the results in the list box.. i know this is quite advanced... any help? BTW. im using C#.net (but might need to port it to VB.net..) any help?

the fact i did a FULL NTFS format (as aposed to a quick) didn't help! will run some data recovery software.. but as i explained to the user, its not looking like the future is infact orange!

YESTERDAY: One of of our sales guys XP was messing up... easyest solution was to swap his machine out for a spare.. i did this, reset up his outlook, set up his arciving location for mail. and redirected his my documents to his share on the server. brought his PC to my desk, and did a full NTFS format on it, and reinstall of XP... TODAY: got a call from this user, he was complaining that there are files missing from his my documents.... anyone guess what the problem is? the person who set up his system before didn't direct his my documents to his user share on our server, so his my Documents were actully stored at its default directory within "documents and settings" this means, when i nuked the system.... yes! iv got rid of all his work! anyone have any idea????? i only lost 2-3 years worth of acounts and quotes

So to change the basic log-on wallpaper i need to modify that reg key... am i able to take the wallpaper off of a UNC path?

right ok... so with the infomation mentioned above. this is my plan... setting up a scope from 192.168.24.1 TO 192.168.25.254 then excluding everything from 192.168.24.1 TO 192.168.24.255 that will act as our static "area"(my own naming lol) then leave the scope open for dynamic allocation from 192.168.25.1 TO 192.168.25.255 is that the best way? or shall i just the #####.24.1 TO #####.24.255 out of the scope completely? how does the nodes know what IP range it can look at and what it can't.. EG.. if i leave 192.168.24 out of the scope. and then put all our static IP hardware on there. will it all work ok. and beable to talk to hardware on this range(if all workstations(that are dynamic) are on the 192.168.25.# range..)

so.. by setting the subnet mask to 255.255.252.0 will i then beable to set it: 192.168.24.1 TO 192.168.24.255 in DHCP as reserved for static IP and then set: 192.168.25.1 TO 192.168.255 for the dynamic IP scope? and all of this set up on the DHCP server? thanks loads for your help. think im getting my head around it..

We are currently rebuilding our domain(migration from older unwell setup domains has caused problems) our original plan was: 192.168.25.1 TO 192.168.25.10 FOR ROUTERS,FIREWALL,SMART SWITCHES,ETC.. 192.168.25.11 TO 192.168.25.25 FOR SERVERS & NAS 192.168.25.26 TO 192.168.25.200 MAIN DYNAMIC IP ADDRESS SCOPE 192.168.25.201 TO 192.168.25.210 FOR NETWORK PRINTERS 192.168.25.211 TO 192.168.25.254 FOR IP PHONES what we want todo now, is have 2 IP address Class C's(i think there called) so our main workstations and VPN users are connected to 192.168.26.### and all our static IP address stuff is on 192.168.25.### im no good at this kind of networking, so i was wondering, how hard it would be enabling communications across these subnets.... any advice, is there a better way of doing this? we are a fast expanding company and if we keep it all on 1 IP range, we will run out of IP address's!!

somone mentioned the EEE PC. im intending to buy one soon for facebook and MSN(hehe) so i was looking out for comments todo with the EEE PC and i saw the acer comments and thought acer made the EEE. but after itching my head it hit me, they don't! hehe excuse me! such a long week. its sucking the life out of me!

allot of people saying bad words about Acer, and it seemed like these bad words followed on from the comment of possible "eee PC's" im confused, considering EEE PC's are an asus product

600GB space 6,000gb GB bandwidth at the desposal of this project.. i brough some hosting. but never really thought what i would use it for.... id be intrested in building a project like this!

to be fair though, there not spec'ed anything majorly more then a standard workstation.. there not even in a majorly large case.. and 512mb is less then what there supplying desktops at.. and if its not running anything major. you can get a workstation with a smaller footprint that will run the same.. thinking about it though, if you get it at standard spec.. it does work out quite cheap.. but only if you have a use for a system with 512 ram.. ^^reading back, my view has changed from one extream to the other..lol

in the end, i bit the bullet, and just used autoIT.. what iv never used before. and have now coded quite a nice script!! think im going to be using autoIT for most of my jobs now, who else uses autoIT?

im having the same problem at the moment. what i think im going todo, is use robocopy to just copy the "GLOBAL LINKS" root folder(that contains all my sub folders) onto each persons all user folder.

you also need to look into securing sensitive data on removable storage! that is then secured itself.

hi, iv just got back from an emergancy call out for a school i do some vollentry work at.... they had a flood. and had to pull out all the ICT equipment what included 2 servers and various other IT equipment. iv fitted there router, and 2 servers into the switch. and got there file,print,DHCP server back online. aswell as there sims server. its been refitted in a temp state to allow the school to still use there IT equipment before county comes in and moves there servers and switchs to a diffrent location... im not clued up on pricing and i was wondering if somone could give me some advice on how much i should quote the gov's on how much it will cost them? it took around about a hour and 15-20 mins after refitting the router,repatching,installing the 2 servers. and checking internet and printer connectivity. anyone able to give me a rounded price?? regards Tom Kirby.

The problem i seem to be having is stripping the time off the end of the string.. if i can get rid of that.. i will be able to do this! its complaing about some sort of bloody access rights now aswell i can't even retreave the RAW data infomation and output it as a msgbox, let alone put it down to a string and remove the crap on the end.. :mad:VB.NET
