Thanks, we'll keep the moodle smb_web_client in mind. As we get more customers I'm sure this need will arise.

We have a demo of a Moodle-Elgg-LAMS integration at solutiongrove.net. Technical details and code are available on the SolutionGrove.com blog.

You can see a demo server of the integration at solutiongrove.net. Not sure if it does the file sharing you are describing exactly but you can try it out. It does allow the teacher to export files from a Moodle assignment to the Elgg portfolio.
