Interesting. I was wondering about this option myself. I use a CMS for work and thought that Moodle could be integrated with it to deliver a VLE. Is it the case that someone with good design skills could modify Moodle to make it a little less ugly? Kind regards, Richard

I've just seen the beginnings of a primary school site in LP+. The design didn't inspire me but the HT seemed to be confident. What do you know about LP+? Is it the case the we have to use it and no other options are available to Northants schools? Kind regards, Richard

Interesting posts on LPs in the shire. Could someone update us on what's currently happening? I'm a governor in a primary school in Northamptonshire and have begun to do some research into the best options available for my school. 1. What are the pros and cons of the proposed system which is being piloted? 2. What are the anticipated costs of the system? One secondary school in the county invested close to £30k in a VLE which was never used. Apparently, another 'approval' has been made across Northamptonshire and it concerns me that the same thing will happen again. Why shouldn't a school create its own website or get a company to create one that can be managed internally? I realise that these are very simple / naive questions but anyone who can help me to provide my school with a synopsis of the current situation would be a star. Kind regards, Richard

I need a PHP programmer I use to be able to work with the platform. I need it to be flexible and robust. I need it to support subscription / access systems. It needs to be capable of reducing cross browser compatibility issues. It needs to have flexible style sheets / templates. It needs to sync well with forums and other social networking options. It needs to cope with podcasting. It needs to be able to communicate with LMS / SIMS. It needs to cope with huge user rates and very large content management. It needs to offer tried and tested WYSIWYG interfaces. It should be able to cope with multiple authors / content managers. And... * Dynamic form builders * Business or organizational directories * Document management * image and multimedia galleries * E-commerce and shopping cart engines * Forums and chat software * Calendars * Blogging software * Directory services * Email newsletters * Data collection and reporting tools * Banner advertising systems I need to be able to access expert support relatively swiftly and easily. I run a series of educational websites and am looking for an alternative to static html - so... an open source content management system seems sensible. I like the idea of a database driven modular structure with dynamic pages. However, what to choose is always the question on people's minds - pros and cons, etc. My initial research leads me towards to more in-depth scrutiny of Joomla, Drupal and Moodle. Hi folks! I'm after a big favour for a colleague... please read on. I have a teacher I know whose IT Manager has just bought a load of Mac and wants to do the following but he's got stuck... Can you let me know if you or someone else you know of may have a solution and be prepared to forward some instructions or get in touch. The guy I knew who was great with network managing left my old school and I've lost touch. 'Hey Richard, you've been incredibly helpful to me in the past so I'm wondering if you might be again...baring in mind I know you must be really busy. Thing is, my IT manager has finally got fed up with my PC's never working properly and has gone out and bought brand new Macs as he's heard they just work..which will be an amazing amount of stress off my shoulders if this is the case. Problem is he's trying to work them out, in particular how to compartmentalise the logins so each group has their own and can't fiddle about with any other groups work. Do you know how to do this and can you send instructions? Also, I'm not connecting them up to the net or our network at school as I just need the pupils the be able to use Photoshop and do editing...is this going to adversely effect them in any way. I do hope not... OK I think that's it. As soon as you have time some answers...or where to go to find them, will be amazing. I am so grateful.'
