[sims] Change the SIMS Server Path from within SIMS
Holykimura replied to Holykimura's topic in MIS Systems
Hi many thanks for that, I'll have to check to see if that will sort it on monday, i was looking for the sims.ini and was looking in the sims and sims.net folders and never thought to look in c:\windows -
Hi we are trying to run an attendance letter from within SIMS on a client machine, however it keeps displaying and error message that is saying it is looking for and old version of the server that is now turned off. I have checked the path for the Document Managment server and this points to the correct server. I have tried to a new install of SIMS by running SIMSinst.exe but that is saying for some strange reason that it can not find the SIMS infrastructure.exe even though it is sitting in the same setups folder. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many Thanks

Thanks to all your useful comments. I will keep you posted with how I get on.

Hi, I am looking for some advice. I am new to supporting SIMS and I have been given the job of udating SOLUS 2 to SOLUS 3. I want to create a test environment and update several lap tops using SOLUS 3 prior to updating schools. I have a few questions if anybody would not mind answering: 1) Do I download SOLUS 3 and install on to the server or does each laptop have a copy of SOLUS 3 on it? 2) Is there a way of rolling back to SOLUS 2 if SOLUS 3 does not install as anticipated?

Hi it was just a hypothetical question, just so that I could check I knew what I was doing.

I agree totally, I think I will set up a server to test any way, may like you say give peace of mind

I was thinking about that but was thinking if the update is critical would I have the time to test before roll out?
-
Hi, thanks Kiran that was really useful.

Thanks Steve.

Thanks, so how would you know if the update was successful ? Is there a way of knowing if the SIMS stations have been updated or not?
-
Thanks for the information, I'm new to MIS we are using SIMS, if I needed to install a critical update at short notice what steps should I take in order to do this safely and securely. Im thinking 1) Get all users to log out 2) Remotley log into server 3) Back up the server data 4) Kick out any users 5) Start up SOLUS 6) Down load the critcitcal update 7) Apply to a single machine 8) Check that it works 9) If so roll out to all other stations Have i missed anything out?
