+1 for Proxy Switcher I personally use it when travelling from home to work with my laptop. I just set it so if it can ping DC1's address, then activate the proxy. Anything else then don't (for example, when I am at home). Also lets you add multiple rules if you connect to multiple networks with different proxy addresses. Just set it up to silently start when Windows starts in the settings and it just sits there and does it's job, it's never failed me. Settings can also be locked via an ADMX template from the Proxy Switcher website so they can't mess around with it. Teachers here will soon be getting Boot Camped MBPs so this will be a nice addition for the teachers, now if I can find something similar for OS X.... Here's their website: Proxy Switcher Jack

Looks like we will be locking iPads down with policies set in Apple Configurator running on our Mac Pro Server (which we are also using for AD/OD integration with our new iMacs) But this requires us to plug every iPad (we are getting around 300-ish) into the Mac Pro and install the policies. Luckily we have employed a new tech who I will be working with who knows a hell of a lot more about OS X and iOS than I do Jack

Hey Grant, I should have mentioned this in the OP, but I have tried MSI deployment on a small handful of machines and I am still having these issues. We did get a reply back from Google saying to disable Flash PPAPI out-of-process and that also didn't work. I am just completely stumped. Jack

Hi all, We are having a major issue with Google Chrome and it is really baffling us. Sometimes Chrome will open fine and other times it won't. For Domain Admins, Chrome will usually open and run fine with no issues whatsoever, but for staff and students... not so much. A staff/student will attempt to open Chrome and it will not open. The cursor will just flash for around half a second and then nothing will come up. The strange thing is, sometimes it will work, and open normally. Also, if the user logs off then back on again, Chrome may begin to work. Our old tech didn't deploy Chrome using the MSI, as far as I can tell, he used Ranger Package Manager to image Chrome and then deploy it. It has worked, up until recently when our issues started to occur. I have tried different things, Such as clearing cached profiles, removing chrome (and leftover registry entries) and then installing the MSI version. But to no avail. I am completely stumped, We have raised a ticket with Google themselves and awaiting a reply, and with our external IT support, but they won't help us because it isn't a Microsoft product (-.-) So I'm just trying to dig up information now. I have suggested Chrome Frame, but I'd rather have Chrome if possible. Also, we use a RealSmart powered Website and VLE, and the use of Google Mail, Drive etc. is critical for teachers and students alike (Mail is pretty much unusable and causes the computer to lock up and freeze under IE8) Thanks for any help in advance Jack

To be honest, I'd rather have Windows 8/RT (Windows on ARM) devices such as the Microsoft Surface. This is mainly because it is easier to transfer student work off the device. In our case, we use a RealSmart powered website which uses a Google Domain. This means that students would be able to upload work from the tablet to Google Drive and then share with teachers. Also the Windows environment will be very familiar to Students anyways. We have started to get iPads for learning, but we do have a bit of an issue on getting students work off the device and onto Google Drive, unless they use the Drive app (a pain to sign into using RealSmart SSO atm) to create the documents instead. Also, if the tablets run full Windows 8 Pro/enterprise or w/e (not RT) they can be joined to a domain, so they can put documents in their home folder and be locked down with GPO too. I'm not a fan of Windows 8 on the desktop, but I'd rather use it over iOS or Android (especially in an educational environment) on a tablet. Couple Windows 8 Pro devices with a excellent wireless system such as Meru, then you'll have a winner on your hands -Jack

Hi Ed, sorry for the delayed reply. I think this issue is with Ranger, both DCs can ping each other and active directory is replicating everything such as users, NETLOGON, SYSVOL etc fine. DNS is also working fine. I will contact our outside support firm who set it all up, I've only inherited it. Thanks for your help, Jack

Hello all, I am having an issue with Ranger and/or Server 2008R2. We run our 2 DCs and other servers on a 2 ProLiant G7 ESXi cluster. The 2 DCs are running Ranger 7.3.3.1 and are set in load balance mode. We use Ranger to set shortcut layouts in the start menu and start menu for Students and Staff. Ranger should then mirror changes made to these folders to the other DC, the same with Ranger policies so users retain policies etc. no matter what their audit/config server is. However it is not copying at all. I am having to set policies and shortcuts manually on both DCs for it to work how I want it to. I'm not sure if it is a Ranger issue or 2008R2 issue. Any ideas?
