Thanks rpwillis, I think in the near future we would open the sharepoint out to the internet so that teachers can login to it at home. Would the page viewer solution not work this way?

Hi everyone, Please can anybody offer any advice on a SharePoint 2010 web part which will connect to a share on a file server and display the content on SharePoint? I have had a quick google and found a few that state they will do the job but wanted to see if anybody has got any experience of such web part. Any information is greatly appreciated. Regards

I have ran the report and it shows the following: I am sure my boss has been through this report with TASC and they have said everything is fine.

It is my boss who has been looking at this issue but he is off ill today, I am not 100% certain he has looked at these. How do I go about running these? PARS seems to stop at the same point everytime, it stops when it is creating the PARS.exe.config file.

Hi everyone! We currently have a situation at our school where the teachers are complaining that PARS takes too long to load in the morning. From our investigation from first boot in the morning PARS does take a while to load and when a say a while 1 minute, but apparently this is too long for teachers to wait! After this first load PARS will open within seconds. Our PC's all run windows 7 and have at least 2GB of RAM and an Intel core 2 duo processor or above. Our server are Server 2008 R2. Please would it be possible for someone with a similar setup to test how long it takes PARS to open on their network? Simply login as a teacher and double click PARS and start a timer. We have been in constant contact with TASC but they cannot seem to find a solution to our problem and say we are the only school that has complained of this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All, Hope somebody can help with the following issue. At our school we have Server 2008 R2 and Win 7 clients. All the staff use the same mandatory .V2 profile. Every now and then we will get called out to a PC where Windows 7 has logged the teacher in with a TEMP profile instead of their mandatory profile. The only way to then enable the teacher to logon correctly is to restart the PC, login as administrator, go into regedit, then delete any keys that have their SSID in, HKEY Local Machine-Software-Microsoft-Windows NT-Current Version-Profile List. Then lastly go into C:\Users and delete any profile with their username on. Once this is done the teacher can login fine. The wierd thing is that this issue keeps reoccuring randomly with different users on different PC's. I have also tried completely deleting the user out of sctive directory and recreating them but still the issue will reoccur again. Please can anyone help?

Hi All, Just thought I would end the thread by letting everyone know that I have fixed the printer issue by setting up a x86 Server 2008 machine. All the drivers and printer now map a treat using a VB logon script. It seems that Server 2008 R2 can simply not be used as a print server for x86 win 7 clients, very wierd! Thanks everyone for your help.

Sounds like I will have to do the same, never touched hyper v is is pretty straight forward to set up?

So cleared all the printers and drivers off the server, re-added all printers with x64 drivers for Server 2008 R2 then added x86 drivers via a domained win 7 PC. Deleted all old drivers from PC's in the ICT rooms and all worked fine for one morning and now just back to square one with students getting script error saying "specified port unknown" Only way I can see to solve the error is to login with administrator delete all drivers from print management and restart print spooler. But if I keep doing this I will be going round in circles!!

When you say not printing correctly how do you mean? Just text and no images?

Sounds like a driver issue, I have had the same error message as you stated and it turned out to be incorrect x86 drivers on server 2008 r2. After a bit more investigation I think it is because I have been adding Server 2008 x86 drivers as the additional x86 drivers rather than Win 7 x86 drivers . I am going to delete all drivers and printers restart the server and then re add the printers. Then add the win 7 x86 drivers using the method described by Andy T and figers crossed this will work.

Hi Andy T, Yes the server has both x64 and x86 drivers for all the printers. I tried using the GPP methos for deploying printers but the logon times were dramatically increased so I stuck to using a script to map the printers as the logon time was much quicker this way.

Checked the registry of a faulty PC and sure enough exactly the same as you described Sturgeo. I am currently in the process of setting up an i5 PC to run as a Server 2003 R2 print server. Will let you know how I go on. I believe it must be a fault with a 64bit Server not being able to deal with x86 print drivers, very disappointing really

Hi Sturgeo, I think I may have to do the same and set up a 2003 R2 server simply for the printers. On the server 2008 R2 server I installed a few vista x86 drivers for printers which only had the universal driver available on the HP website. I think this may be the cause of PC's randomly getting errors as they are getting the printers mapped. It seems that server 2008 R2 is simply rubbish at handling older printers especially when HP does not supply up to date server 2008 r2 drivers. I will have a check in the registry of one of the faulty PC's and see if the same fault occurs as you are describing.

Hi All, Our network has been completely flattened this summer as we have wiped all the servers and installed Server 2008 R2, wiped all client PC's and installed Windows 7 x86. Everything went smoothly and all the GPO's we created are working a treat. But we are currently having an issue with printers. We tried several methods for deploying printers and found the most reliable way to be running a script to map the printer and then also determines the PC name and sets a default printer. All seemed to be running perfectly but recently we have been getting a script error on random PC's saying something along the lines of Unknown port specified. This can be solved by logging in as an administrator going into print management and deleting the print drivers. After this the PC will work for a few days then will error again. Please can anyone help me resolve this issue as it is driving me mad having to login to various PC's everyday to delete drivers just for it to happen again.

Dear All, I currently use Ranger for Networks as the network management software but due to the decrease in quality of the products and also the fact that technical support never answer the phone I am trying to find an alternative. The product needs to be able to monitor pen drives and restrict certain files being copied onto the system, as well as lock up the PC's in conjunction with policies, etc. Please could anybody tell me a good alternative that could replace Ranger for Networks? The servers are running server 2008, and we have approximately 400 client PC's. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The fibre is being installed by H2O networks They are installing the physical cable and we need to buy in the fibre NIC cards and what ever else we need to connect the fibre to the 3 networks. Since we have never done this before we are unsure which equipment we need to buy in to route the correct data to the different networks.

Hi MYK-LB Unfortunately upon investigating we are only getting a single pair, we did want 2 pairs but when we had to push the costs down we lost the other pair. What equipment will I need to get now its only a single pair?

Please can anybody help with the following issue: At the moment I work at a grammar school in lancashire and we have a secondary school and sixth from about 1.5 miles apart. We have just signed off getting a fibre link between the 2 sites and are now in the process of figuring out what we need to do once the fibre is installed. At the moment the sixth form has a curriculm network and an admin network. The curriculm network uses ip address's 10.68.44.* and subnet mask 255.255.252.0. The admin network stretches over both sites as it is linked by microwave but will be linked by the fibre when it is installed. The secondary school also has a curriculm network and the same admin network as the sixth form. The curriculm network uses address's 10.68.4.* and subnet mask 255.255.252.0. The DNS is different on both sites as we have seperate servers for each network. By linking the sites we want to keep the seperate networks but allow users logged in at one site to be able to access files on their area on the other site. And also allow sixth form students to be able to log in to the secondary school curriculm network. The big question that we need to know is what equipment do we need to buy to be able to link the networks? We presumed a router at either end would do the job or will a layer 3 switch at either end do the job? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, Have any of you had the problem of setting database password encryption in access 2007 (.accdb) while mandatory profiles or when locking the profile with writeback in GPO. I always get an "invalid argument" error. It seems it doesn't work whenever the user.dat file is locked. Any suggestions? Thanks, Darren.

Hi Mark, If you setup a Microsoft domain or forest trust it will not share the same passwords/user accounts but your users will be able to access resources from both domains by logging on to either domain. i.e if a users logs in to to the curriculum domain they will also have access to assigned admin resources without authenticating again. All the info is available from Microsoft and is fair simple to follow. Hope that helps. Darren.
