    My understanding is that up to now at least LEAs have not been able to bid for BSF contracts as it's a conflict of interest. Not sure if you mean or think that in Kent the bidder was somehow connected to the LEA but it was not. Land Securities and Northgate are no different to RM and they're overall bidding partner, ie. companies who were simply bidding for the contract with no prior connection with the LEA.

    Damn, it's too far for me or it would be perfect. Travelling from Herne Bay to maidstone daily would put a huge dent in the pay packet.

    It's a little unclear where this is coming from. I heard it from Alan Day as Kent wanting this as part of the contract. I raised it with Northgate in the pre-tuping meetings and was told that they were not aware of this requirement. It has since been raised by our new line manager(s) and I've pointed this discrepancy out to them, and pointed out that tupe protects our working hours. I'm waiting to hear back. As a general update I'm afraid I'll have to say "no comment". Now that I'm employed by Northgate I don't feel comfortable commenting in an open forum on how things are going either in relation to them as my employer, or as a supplier to the school.

    Complete autonomy for now. They have stressed very firmly that they do not want to come in and tell us how to do things as we're already running quite smoothly. They will just offer support and suggestions. This may not be the same for all schools though, if they're thought to have weaker departments that need some input.

    Well, it's my first day as a Northgate employee. I received a welcome pack and a copy of my contract in the post on Friday, no surprises so far. Someone from the company will be coming in to see us this week, and then there's a couple of induction days later in the month. Not really much else to tell at the moment as they're been very clear that it will be business-as-usual for us for a few months yet. Our Northgate contract manager came in to see us briefly a couple of weeks back. The surprise was that we already knew him as he used to teach here a few years ago. He left to work for RM and is now with Northgate. Outside of the ICT strand building work has now started in ernest. Nothing new to us here as there's been some kind of building works going on almost constantly for ten years now. BSF should prove the most challenging though as just about every department is being moved at some point.

    Thanks but being very careful about that. Having googled a bit I think it may simply be that I made them dynamic drives when I should have left them as basic. Experimenting now.

    This is my first MS server install. Bought an off-the-shelf HP box, added a SATA card and set it up for backing up huge areas of resources etc... I've got 6x 500Gb SATA drives that I'm hot-swapping but I'm starting to find that when I put back in one of the drives I've already used the server won't let me access it. I put the drive in, go to Computer Management and Disk Management and the drive shows up as "foreign". Go to import it and that fails with a error in the system logs that "a disk group with the specified name already exists". Am I doing something wrong as I've done the same thing in XP at home no problem?

    Yeah, was told again that signing was supposed to be happeneing Friday morning. That was the last we heard again.

    There's a terrible echo in my office here these days.... "The contracts havn't been signed yet, you'll be tupe-ing next month now." It started back in April, and I heard it again in September. Now we're half-way through October and the current TUPE date is November, just don't count on it as..... "The contracts havn't been signed yet......." Deaks.

    No, this is the end of three years worth of meeings, bidding and planning. It's just that up until the end of last year they hadn't actually said what was happening to the techies or talking to us directly. You should be able to see in an earlier post I put a link to the KCC page that lists which schools are in which waves.

    Three weeks and counting! Current TUPE date is October 1st so just a little while to go. We've got another set of 1:1s next week to deal with the final part of the process, and possible to meet the new team leader recruited from the existing support staff. My manager went for it but didn't get it.

    It eventually times out with "Windows cannot find \\192.168.0.5 check the spelling and try again.....".
