  1. I got Dansguardian working via the URL rewrite hack. Edit /etc/dansguardian/lists/urlregexplist and add the following: I also redirected the standard youtube.com homepage to youtube.com/education - so all the normal (and now blocked) video links don't appear. Redirecting to the education page everytime sorta shows everyone that it's not the "normal" youtube access. Now Youtube just need to allow for proper proxy caching!
  2. Same here. I also have transport rules to BCC all Student Email to a Public Folder that Staff can read. eg: in realtime too
  3. I'm from Brisbane too.
  4. They probably got rid of it because they want anyone with a tape drive to use this... http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/dataprotectionmanager/en/us/default.aspx What's worse is any trusty ntbackup batch scripts everyones made over the years will no longer work either. Migrating looks complex, because the new Window's backup doesn't have a plain text log file either, so that really messes up simple batch files that check/email log files.

Youtube, Wikipedia, Myspace, Bebo, Facebook are all becoming a total headache when it comes to students & schools. Last year I had a video of our students fighting removed. It was removed the next day, which was good. Three weeks later, another Brisbane school was on the 6oclock news with a because of a similar video :? The other day I found another video, although much more milder, but still equally as annoying. And as of yet, I'm still waiting to see it disappear. Wikipedia has been just as annoying, although at least that's somewhat easier to clean up. But like StewartKnight said, the old exclusion trick will probably work wonders.
  6. I'm an IT contractor from Australia. I'm between two schools each week, one with ~900 computers, the other has ~220. Been doing school IT for about six years now for a handfull of other schools, both public & private. After reading a bit of this forum, I'd have to say there's some quite good info on here! And I also develop http://www.netbootdisk.com
