I'm the one who started this thread, and this is the first chance I have had to read since it began. What a lot of strong opinions! What originally made me ask the question are: I do not like the web filtering we get from CLEO. It is very restrictive on a number of sites that staff really want to use (YouTube for instance) and inadequate for things that need restricting (flash games for instance). To address the second part of the issue, we bought a SmoothWall Network Guardian so we could have control over what is blocked, but this is an industrial-strength web filter which means we don't need CLEO's. I do not like having to do security in CLEO's way. I want to serve my own content on my own web server. If I was a Systems Manager in the "real" world I would open up which ports I want and off I go, but with CLEO (whom we pay to provide US with a service) I have fill in a request form, tell them what I want it for, and then only get a reverse proxy allocation. It's as if I work for them, instead of the other way around. I have a router, I've done a CCNA, I have lots of experience, I have VPN-capable switches, I configure firewalls, I use Group Policies... I've got the skills, but not the freedom. Anyway, the question I originally asked was if anybody has switched, and what their experiences were. Any takers on that question?

We use CLEO here for our internet access, and I'm sure most of you use whatever ISP your county provides. However, I'm not all that happy with CLEO and I'm thinking of shopping around for a proper commercial ISP. Has anyone done this? How has it gone? Are there any pitfalls I should consider? (Like any kind of access that can only be done through CLEO sites or proxies? email addresses? or whatever else?) I would appreciate any edu-geeky thoughts on the subject. Thanks guys (and gals).

Okay, I removed it from where it was and installed IIS and the LimitLogin IIS gubbins on a DC. Now I don't get any error message anymore, but the AD MMC tool doesn't show any logins for my test user. It's like the thing is just ignoring my user, even though the script appears to run. I'll search around the forums tomorrow for any info, but there is such a shortage on t'internet of info about LimitLogin that it almost seems like only we on EduGeek know about it! If anybody knows any sites with some good info about it then please let me know. Thanks.

It took me a few days but I rebooted the IIS server, and it still doesn't work! Grrrrr!!! Would it help if I knew what SOAP is?

Rebooting the server isn't in the instructions, but I'll give it a try. I guess that would be the DC that I told it to use?

LimitLoginClientSetup.msi HAS been installed correctly. I installed it by Group Policy/Machine/Assigned. When that didn't work, I logged in as administrator and installed it interactively.

Hi pals. I setup LimitLogin on my network, and I get this error message. What the heck does it mean? "SOAP initialization failed. Here are the details: WSDLReader:XML Parser failed at linenumber 0, lineposition 0, reason is: The system cannot locate the object specified. HRESULT=0x1: Incorrect function. - WSDLReader:loading of the WSDL file failed......" There's more but I'm finding all that rubbish hard to type. If anybody really needs the rest I'll copy it out. Anyway, any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.
