I'm sure this is an easy one for you guys, but... how do I prevent users changing the desktop wallpaper on XP Pro /Win2k server? have set GP to block usual way, but users can still use IE or Irfanview to do this. TIA.

Did it last year - complete balls-up (it didn't like W98! we're now on XP Pro) . Head of IT adamant he didn't want to do it again 'til about 2 wks ago - -he had his arm twisted by LEA advisors and now we're off again...... Hmmph!

I have been using VNCon for a few months now and I like it; http://vncon.chronetal.co.uk/ You can tile screens, remotely install VNC, remotely shut down, send messages , take control of machines , organise groups etc, and the best bit is ............. ..............its free ! Anyone else here use it? Any tips?

XP is SP1 , Office is original 2000 build. Internet access filtered by netpilot thru LEA /Affiniti(formerly Kingston Inbusiness).

We are using Excel 2000 and sometimes web query (Data > get external data > New Web Query) does not locate the browser - (says you need a World wide web browser to be installed). No other probs at all with IE. W2k server ,WXP Pro workstations. Can't see a pattern to it - seems to work for some users on some workstations, not for others. Any ideas?

Ric - re: mouse balls ; Glue the retaining plate in - you'll never lose another ball (need a screwdriver to clean them though!)

Can recommend the HP NX6110 - we have had 32 on 2 trolleys since Sept and they are no bother at all. Our other 2 trolley loads are Dell Latitude 100L celeron (with 12 cell NiMH battery !) and are good machines , but I think build quality is not as good as the HP's. (loose catches , keys & feet coming off etc). We bought all teaching staff Dell D505's about 18 mths ago and they are cracking machines (maybe 'cos the kids don't get to mess with them lol! ))

Just wondered - does anyone have any experience of these? We have 8 each of version 1 and 2 (software mutually incompatible of course so both progs installed on each PC). The software is a bit crap & we really need an alternative - Windows Movie Maker finds the camera when docked , & pulls ' live' video from it ,but will not download recorded clips from it . Any ideas?
