Running a CC4 server. Attempting to install a second server on the same LAN running AD DC to serve 30 machines due to the awful CC4 login times. Installed AD fine. BUT clients cannot join the new domain. Get as far as the login screen and get this error “An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain.” I frankly do not know what I am doing with the DNS. We’re a primary just trying to resurrect an old server to help our network problems. There is no money to get someone in so I’ve got to work this out. I’ve installed DNS on the new server-I ran the DNS wizard and configured it to point at the CC4 server. The new server is configured to point to itself under DNS in “Internet settings”. Clientis pointing at the new DNS server. I’m not sure how to get the DNS to resolve, or even what to look for. Or even if I need DNS on the new server. Any ideas??

Thanks! But I updated the firmware yesterday, latest version, before I installed them. I cannot get any info from extricom at all, other than their datasheets, which as you say don't give a clear answer as to compatability

We have an Extricom EXSW-2400, works well with our exrp20 AP's Just bought a load of 22N AP's, the switch won't detect them- gives a code 15- can't dectect AP. No radio signal from AP's at all. The place we bought them from insists they are compatible with the switch. Please help!! Is there a setting somewhere to get this switch to work with these AP's? Invested a lot of money in the Extricom because it was supposed to be plug and play!

Hi Posted a thread about this in the classroom mangagment forum last week but I think it probably should be in here, sorry! We have an Extricom ESXW 2400 switch, with 16 AP's around the school- primary school, old victorian building, thick walls. Around 70 laptops connecting via wireless plus 25 desktops wired in. Not often all at once though. We run a RM CC4 network, but around half the machines are standalones due to the insanely long log in times for the CC4 machines. Mix of XP and windows 7, OS doesn't make any difference to the problem. The problem is often some (not all) laptops cannot get onto the network- they 'see' the wireless ESSID but cannot fully connect- no internet access at all, litte yellow ! on the wireless symbol. The clients can see the ESSID and connect but no internet access, which is mainy what they are used for. Same problem for standalones and CC4 machines. The only solution that works is to pull the plug on the Extricom switch and then plug it back in. This usually works and laptops can access the internet once it's rebooted. On average this is once a day. Network is set to WPA2 + AES, all clients are compatible with this. 2 radios per AP, broadcasting on 1 and 6, 1st radio is g, second is b/g. I've read that Extricom needs to be on unicast rather than multicast- I've no idea how to configure this on Server 2008 R2 though- or indeed if this is the problem anyway! Any ideas please?

The XP machines report that the network isn't giving them an IP address. Often 25-30 are connecting via a single AP. I'm told this should be fine using the Extricom system. The only solution that works is to pull the plug on the Extricom switch and then plug it back in. This usually works and laptops can access the internet once it's rebooted. On avergae it needs rebooting once a day. So much so that my first task every morning is to reboot the switch in the hope that that will keep it going until lunch at least. Wired machines are rock solid and never have any connectivity issues. Only just taken over but apparently it's always been like this! Any suggestions please- is there anything I can configure on the switch that will solve this?
