Hello. So we're running Neverware on some machines here and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on on how/if it's possible to VNC to the machine undetected. To clarify, on Windows-based student machines I install TightVNC as a service and only allow them to be viewed but not do any viewing. It's beautiful because we can drop in unannounced and see what they're doing in real-time. While we don't micromanage our students this way the ability has come in handy more than once in certain cases. I see there are some VNC extensions for Chrome browser but as mentioned, I don't want the students to have the ability to VNC. Thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Hello. Migrating to Windows 10 and ran into my first dislike - Windows Update with the Metro interface. It's horrible for many reasons. That said, it looks like there's a way to revert back to the Classic Shell but for the EDU version of W10 that doesn't appear to be the case. Per Softpedia: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX In the right side of the screen, look for the “IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled” option and double-click it. Simply change its value to 0 and you're good to go. However in the EDU version under that registry key there is no “IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled" option. All I have is a DeferUpgrade and UxOption. I tried changing the UxOption from a 0 to a 1 but that didn't seem to do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Apple has a long range of MAC ID's assigned to them so unfortunately there's no way to block all of those that's not super tedious. The FastResolver program did find a couple of devices I wasn't seeing in nMap and LanSpy so that is a bonus. Thanks for the info on that.

Is that application only for ios devices? Seems like it from what I googled. Sounds like a great solution but I'm running Windows and my phone is a Droid.

Yeah, even on the MS DHCP server they are showing up without a host/device name. This is true of Apple and Android devices.

Hello, Can anyone shed any light on the best way to determine the device name of Apple devices connected to the network? In my network sweeps with nMap, LanSpy, and Colasoft I am able to see the iPods, iPhones, etc out there and obtain their mac address but I'd like to grab their device name as well in an effort to locate the student whom it may belong to. I've scoured google and tried various apps but nothing seems to spit out the info I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -phishphan
